Lore master mine, enlighten me with your knowledge of lore..
Is the Dreaming city a Physical place in the Reef, probably on a really fancy asteroid somewhere, or is it a pocket dimension, carved out of the Ascendent plane by the Techeuns with the help of Riven?

It's a terrible place with only one transmat zone.

A city

It’s a physical place. I think it was supposed to mirror the Distributary, the awoken hub. It is being cloaked by a large device resembling a ring in the sky.

my head cannon for the Dreaming city; the tangled shore was created by miners during the golden age. instead of risking the hazards of colliding asteroids they tied them all together. At in the mining process they found a trove of precious crystals/gems. of course if they sold them all at once then they wouldn't be valuable anymore. the Robber Barons decided to kill all the miners, stow away the crystals in the middle of the shore and build a resplendent oasis on the trove where they would live out there days as they laundered the crystals slowly. Forgotten in the collapse and later co-opted by the awoken.

It's a city full of dreams.

Thought-space in the Minds of the Ancients.

Why is the dreaming city?

1 ReplyThe Dreaming City sits on Vesta, an asteroid. It’s a religious and spiritual place for the Awoken. It was created by Mara Sov with he help of Riven. The most important thing about the Dreaming City is it’s connection to the Distributary, the pocket dimension the Awoken were reborn in.

The only physical part of the dreaming city which is anchored in our reality is the Watchtower. That's the door- the access point. IIRC From lore, The Queen used Riven to wish the Dreaming City into existence and keep it hidden in a secret dimensional space (I can't remember where I read it though). The city allowed the Awoken to hide and keep their secrets from outside intruders.

I thought it was within a black hole.

7 RepliesNotice how there are no houses or rooms for living at all? Little odd for a city, where did all the poo go? I have yet to see a magic space toilet, do the awoken not sleep or go to the bathroom?

1 ReplyFor real though, the place is so big, the rooms and buildings are huge. Even with hundreds of Awoken they still can't fill some rooms. The hallways were built for Vex Gatelords to be able to pass through or something? Have you seen their size? Like the entrance to the Blind Well. For example Harbinger's Seclude. Blind Well. Chamber of Starlight. Check the dimensions of those rooms and hallways. And what the hell is that Corrupted strike area? Another one of those enormous places. For example the room with those miniboss Ogres. One of the smallest places is something like a church with dozens of benches. It's near the Shattered Throne area. That one looks more 'realistic' since it's not super big like almost all places there. So yeah all those points really confuse me about the Dreaming City. Why is everything so big? Even when imaging a lot of Awoken there, they would still look tiny when looking at those gigantic rooms.

It’s like a religious, historical city thingy. It’s basically where all the weird Awoken witchcraft takes place

7 RepliesHow in the hell does gravity work on a bunch of asteroids that are literally chained together? They wouldn't float perfectly apart through space, they would keep crashing into each other. And why do we weigh the same in the reef as on every other planetoid in Destiny? Earth, the moon, Nessus, an asteroid... Still 150-200 pounds? And when we fall off of an asteroid, why do we FALL DOWN? Into SPACE? Does empty space have its own gravity now?! Kind of like on the Dreadnaught??!!! And why does no vendor take Barion Bough for shards/glimmer?! *Hyperventilates and eye twitches uncontrollably*

Edited by Newlord devix: 10/23/2018 12:16:47 AMIn real life terms, the reef is on an asteroid called vesta 3. The awoken just built stuff on it. Edit: i meant the dreaming city is on vesta 3
