For those unaware, Hunters don’t pick their Vanguards like a Titan or Warlock. Because of their nature, the position of Hunter Vanguard is decided by a dare of their choosing.
For Andal Brask, his Dare with Cayde was essentially “If I die, you gotta be the next Vanguard.” Andal died, and Cayde became the Hunter Vanguard.
In the Ace in the Hole mission, Cayde essentially said in the cache specified for any Hunter that they get all of Cayde’s possessions and duties, including the Vanguard.
Here is the situation I have been thinking about:
The player character is the one who obtains final rights to Cayde’s possessions. Now, technically by the terms of Cayde’s Dare, does that mean that if the player character is a Hunter, are they the one who is selected for Hunter Vanguard?

Oh no. Cayde said "Any Hunter who kills me..." His best guess was Marcus Ren, but... ...You DO remember who pulled the trigger, right? If we count him as a Hunter, with what happened... I hope his ghost is ready to re-spawn him few hundred times.

Quite honestly I kinda wish for Ana Bray to be the new Hunter Vanguard

3 RepliesSpolier:
Uldren Sov is the new Hunter Vanguard. Just a guess from the leaked footage
1 ReplyWRONG The caches are for the one who killed Cayde-6. If the killer was a Hunter then they automatically become the next Vanguard Hunter. So one could argue that Cayde's dare is the last Hunter that tries to kill him will be the next Vanguard Hunter, whether it was in the crucible or for real.

3 RepliesThe real problem is that none of our hunters even have a name. Though we’re instrumental in most Vanguard duties, we’re technically not on a level high enough. In terms of owning everything, including the Dare, yes, we should be Vanguard. However, I think the above reasons kinda ruin that.

9 RepliesThe biggest candidates for being the next Hunter Vanguard are Marcus Ren, as Cayde actually Dared him, or Shiro-4, seeing as Shiro was Cayde’s apprentice and student.

23 RepliesCayde dared Marcus Ren, which means at some point Marcus will probably take his place in the tower. I personally would prefer it if the colonel became the next hunter vanguard.

16 RepliesUnfortunately the Hunter dare does NOT work that way. It’s a bet between 2 hunters. Cayde made a bet with A specific hunter (Was it Marcus Wren, I forget) not our guardian. But that bet didn’t get resolved. The new Hunter vanguard will come about the same way Andal and Cayde got the position. 2 hunters will make a dare, one will lose and become the Vanguard. Don’t get me wrong, I’d totally retire my character to have him become the vanguard, but it probably won’t happen.

In the great word of our ever silent protagonist - "Deal."
