I’m aware that it’s not recommended to use hotspot as a connection for destiny but it doesn’t make any sense as to why I shouldn’t be able to use it. No other online game gives me any issues for using hotspot and I normally have a ping between 50-70 why do I get disconnected every 5 seconds from destiny? I know my connection isn’t too bad to play on I can go to any game on steam and play just fine. Fix this issue stop kicking me out of the servers.

Not that I’m recommending it, but you’d probably have a better experience playing on McDonalds WiFi than playing on a hotspot.

1 ReplyOk, I don't even know WHERE to start with this one but let's try to break it down. First off, you cannot use a mobile hotspot to play Destiny 1/2 for any considerable period of time because mobile carriers have built in network detection tools to restrict and slowly throttle upload speeds when they see P2P connections. So that is the LEAST of the problems here. The ping you are discussing when using a mobile hotspot only refers to the ping to the nearest mobile tower and does NOT tell the true story. If your ping to the tower is 50-70 ms, then your true ping is probably closer to 200-250 ms. That doesn't even take into account the packet loss experienced on a mobile connection, which on a good connection is between 10-15%. When watching things like movies, etc. this can be overcome by buffering (same as when browsing the web) but cannot be overcome in a P2P gaming connection. Now let's add to the fact that there are only two mobile hotspot modems on the market that offer wired connections which means you are adding an additional layer of problems because you are connecting to a wireless hotspot for mobile internet via a WiFi connection. This just adds to your ping and packet loss in general as D1/2 are meant to be run on at LEAST a 100 mbps wired connection within your own network (gigabit preferred). Then let's get down to your other comment, 'i can play all my other games fine." All your other games do NOT run on a P2P hybrid mesh architecture with physics engine servers. That is why you have so many problems. This would be like saying I cannot understand why my car cannot run on diesel, my big rig runs fine with it.

5 RepliesEdited by TuxyDoh: 8/18/2018 5:35:37 PMD2's p2p system requires a strong and stable internet connection, hotspots do not typically meet these requirements. a stable 1Mb upload is needed for 4v4 pvp, 6v6 would need more. It is extremely unlikely they are going to recode the game to allow a hotspot connection to be sufficient.
ping between 50-70
A ping this high you are going to be teleporting and bouncing all over the place in pvp. Ideally you want to get that under 20

4 RepliesPlease stop comparing Destiny 2 to other games. Destiny 2 has much more strict data requirements than most other online games. Because of this, a wired, stable broadband connection is recommended.

Because your ping is between 50-70 Typical Broadband is around 20-30
