After so so long of thinking the prestige nightfall thresholds didn't matter, I discovered recently its quite the opposite.
I'm sure some of you will have heard the following claims:
- "Score doesnt matter"
- "Speedrun times make up for the low score"
- "You only need to get a good high score once for the week"
Firstly, Its a fact score does matter in relation to drop rates. (Heres TWAB 1.1.4 https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/46708)
As for the second point, I strongly believe, and so do a lot of others, that speedruns do not make up for the lack of score. Personally I grinded across 6 hours without witnessing a single drop for myself or my fireteam members. That was until I decided to experiment with highscore runs. In no more than 12 110k+ runs I saw a dramatic increase to the drops. I witnessed two people get the DFA before getting my own DFA on my last run (the twelfth). This obviously is just my experience.
Lastly, the third point. To this I have no evidence or anecdotes, but I do believe it to be nothing but a rumour. If any of you can find evidence that supports this claim or disproves it then please let me know.

1 ReplyThank you- I can’t tell you how many people I’ve tried explaining this to only to be told I’m stupid. From my experience (got all nightfall loot the first time available) running high scores ie getting the top tier gives you a drop percent around 10. I never ran a nightfall more than 15 times before I got my first drop and typically saw 1 drop every 3ish play throughs. The top tier used to be 80k I think, but now it’s 200k. The tiers I think are 30k 60k 110k 200k Just go for the highest score you can in a reasonable amount of time. Remember if you’re 385 you get a free 25 handicap (I think) before you are affected negatively. Famine basically does nothing, extinguish I typically easy to deal with, and match game is a huge bonus

1 ReplyI've gotten 3 drops, maybe more, while only doing normal strikes once on each character. I'm pretty much casual in this game now. I quit caring and stopped playing much. The difference is they want to keep me playing, but they know you're going to play.

1 ReplyEdited by JaumPM: 7/31/2018 2:59:03 AMMay I add something else? I have noticed that chances might increase from the moment you get your first DFA. 2 friends. With 80+ runs. Split 50/30 between speed and high scores. From the moment it dropped to 2 of my friends (in different high score runs) it started to drop more often FOR THEM: average of every 5 high runs. Myself still, nothing. Average score: 110k

I think there isn’t enough difference to warrant the extra time needed you can easily finish the strike in 8 minutes by speed running where as getting 110k takes around 12 minutes I’ve did just under 100 runs on the weekend and got 7 dfa in total they really need to tell us how much extra chance we get to make it worth while

It's all RnG, I've had people run with me, getting it to drop on their first run on normal and I think it was sub 40K. I've then proceeded to run it on prestige during the week a fair few times before getting it on my first speed run attempt. (This was a fair few weeks ago)

2 RepliesGot 121,000 and got it to drop on the first speed run after that high score.

3 RepliesEdited by XX_HOLT_XX: 7/29/2018 5:31:54 AMAll RNG ---- The % are so small they are insignificant. I find it so funny when people say they got the high score and then got the gun two runs later. SO WHAT??? It's all luck. I've never gotten a high score and I have the Ghost, Sparrow, Sniper, Auto Rifle, DFA, SHIP, and Rocker Launcher. I've gotten all of these on either regular or prestige, however more on regular with a low score/non speed run. My approach has been they drop when they drop and it has saved me a ton of frustration. It's very similar to the catalyst I hear people talking about. I'm sure they exist, however RNG has eluded me on delivery. They will eventually come... LOL!!!!! Best of luck to you!

4 RepliesI have gotten three Nightfall specific loot drops, and each of them were from runs below the 110,000 threshold.
