How can there be awoken guardians?
Awoken are the humans who tried to flee during the collapse, if a ghost were to revive an awoken they would have to go to the reef but the act of refueling in the reef is enough to spark war with the awoken so how can a guardian be awoken beforr the events of house of wolves

But the tide of voices never wavered.[/quote] From that time on, all Awoken were divided into two groups: Reefborn and Earthborn. Reefborn are as the name implies, Awoken born in the Reef. Earthborn are the descendants of those who fled the Reef. Earthborn Awoken have zero affiliation with the Queen or the Reef, as Mara essentially exiled them after they fled. Our guardian, if he/she is an Awoken, is an Earthborn.

It always made me laugh in D1 going to the Reef as an Awoken only to hear the dialog "nobody has ever seen an Awoken before" or something similar. Then I'm sad as that was the last time my guardian had a voice...

Think about it this way. Our ghost spent a super long time to find us, odds are that throughout the entirety of D1 there were still ghosts flying around trying to find their guardian. Odds are that after some of the now awoken people had died that they were found by a ghost.

1 ReplyI believe in the original destiny story, each class had a variant of their own story, so i guess what we had was the human beginning, the awoken & Exo would have had a different one.

there where awoken that dies in other places and some didnt accept the reef so they would have left and either gone to the city or died elsewhere

Most likely they were transformed into the awoken either in the beginning or somewhere in the middle of the Collapse. From there awoken probably scattered, some staying in the reef, some going back to earth, and some going to other planets in the solar system. All this happening of course before the Traveler sent both itself and the Darkness into a coma and created the first ghosts.

Some awoken left the reef and came to earth and some of them had children hence earth born awoken - they were not converted to awoken in earth this is why even tho they are awoken the reef awoken don’t consider earth born a to be true awoken and don’t like them as much as they don’t like the guardians, that was until the house of wolves when the guardians were finally excepted on the reef as allies.

3 RepliesThere are Earth-born awoken, too. Not all of them were converted in the reef and beyond. Some became awoken on Earth and other planets like Venus. A few even survived the collapse and their transformation into an awoken, coming to the city. Just look at Tess (or don’t because she’s a super villain), she’s a mortal awoken who had mortal, awoken parents and grandparents.

Many Awoken left the reef after hearing rumours of the City forming beneath the Traveler. Zavala is seen being resurrected as a Guardian inside a crashed ship on Earth, then finding the city when it was just mostly tents.

I often compare the Awoken transformation to the Ghouls in the Fallout series. You can transform under the right conditions (Awoken being due to Light & Dark struggle) so long as they are present, and it can be anywhere. In another way, it can corrupt them because everyone behaves differently due to their surroundings.

<Awoken were converted during the Collapse. Given the amount of destroyed shit that happens to be in the Reef, I wouldn't be surprised if they spread apart and started crashing in and outside the Asteroid Belt. I'm sure there were some mother -blam!-ers who died as far as the Kuiper Belt.>
