Opinions on Ben Shapiro and the Daily Wire?
So what is everyone's opinion on the famous (or infamous) Ben Shapiro?
Personally, I kinda like the guy.

4 RepliesIt seems bizarre to me that a man of his age and status believes himself to be some kind of gender sage that will save the soyboy race from having to call decent people by their actual names. I don't see many people going "oops, my rhinoplasty detector went off, there goes old ben again!" and completely disregarding him in debates because of his lot in life, yet he does the very same to people or even guests such as Blaire White for simply being themselves.

He says some good stuff, along with stupid shit. Just like every other internet ‘intellectual’ out there.

Have yet to see Shapiro have a proper debate with someone who actually has the mental capacity to debate. He is a fast talker and likely intelligent in his own right. But, that doesn't mean that he is accurate in his assertions or that what he says is well thought out. He has mentioned in interviews before that his largest personal flaw when it comes to commentating is that he is prone to confirmation bias. This clearly comes out in the way he rattles off statistics and polls against unwitting college kids who are being cut off before they have a chance to genuinely reply. Check out his interview with Dave Rubin and Jordan Peterson. Peterson is a downright intelligent guy and deep thinker. He must have said close to a hundred things during that interview that Shapiro has disagreed with, but Shapiro giggled and nodded along in agreement the entire time. I think that says a lot right there about his willingness to flesh out ideas with someone who actually thinks on a very high plane. As for the Daily Wire. They are the National Enquirer when it comes to news. Clickbait titles. Loaded with typos. And, reads as if written by a very offended middle-schooler. There seems to be a fair few contributors to the DW articles and most of them are just very cringeworthy.

2 RepliesI’d love to be in one of those “Shapiro destroys liberal” situations (though I’m not really liberal), because anyone with a high school degree and an attention span of more than a goldfish could tear him to pieces. He’s only good at arguing against idiots. And what’s that saying? Something about idiots beating you with experience or something?

3 RepliesI saw him talking/debating with Sam Harris. I remember disagreeing with a lot of his points, but he has at least thought them through. He does seem like someone who can’t have his mind changed, though.

And the fact that any debate I’ve seen him having with someone, it looks like they really don’t know what the hell is going on, and get their “politics” from Facebook memes.

But, he's awful at presenting his "facts", that are very easy to tear through if someone who is experienced in the field that he's talking about. For example, the most "famous" one that people keep posting on here is that transgender "debate" that Shapiro did: It showcases how good a political commentator he is, but how bad he is at presenting actual evidence and fact. When I mean he's good as a political commentator, he does his job well: Finding people who aren't very well-versed in a subject but is passionate about the subject, and then constantly interrupting and spinning the words of the person in a way to make them doubt their own convictions. When I watched that video, he used facts about Biology and Psychology so disgustingly wrong, that I very highly doubt he even paid attention in introductory Bio and Psychology class in college, and this was within the first 10 seconds of that video. He has high charisma, but he should stick to political issues such as government corruption or ICE, or whatever, and not stuff pertaining to Biology or Psychology. A person with a BA in Psychology (or even a minor in Psychology) or a BS in Biology will easily find all of the weaknesses in his argument and would readily call him out for those weaknesses. That's the reason for why he typically doesn't try to debate with people who actually know the subject that he's talking about. He would rather pick on someone who doesn't know as much about the subject, and constantly heckle them, then use a broad paintbrush to paint the entire liberal party as such. As for the Dailywire, I see the Onion as a much more legitimate source than Dailywire. Dailywire is what happens when the Onion decided to take itself seriously, cut all the comedy, and still get the material wrong. At least with the Onion, you can tell that they're over-exaggerating and it's satire, much like the Borowitz Report. With the Dailywire, they're taking themselves seriously, but with the way they mislead readers and spin the stories to make it sound like all liberals are bad and all conservatives are good, it looks more like Shapiro and his tryhard friends are [i]trying[/i] to mimic the Onion, and failing at it spectacularly. Edit: tl;dr: Shapiro is good at what he studied for, but sucks at things he didn't study for. Dailywire is what happens if The Onion goes through the emo "you don't know me mom!" phase.

1 ReplyI read The Daily Wire often, up until a few weeks ago. Some articles are literally just lists of tweets, others are just stupid, they put out solid stuff on occasion. But I don’t really like them overall.

As a result of listening to his speeches and interviews, I've changed some of views and have begun to think more deeply about principles. He has some positions I disagree with, but the guy is incredibly deeply principled, a fount of information, and an all around cool dude. I also like some of the other people from DW like michael knowles and andrew klavan.

1 ReplyHe's alright. I don't like his show as much as I like Andrew Klavan's show and Michael Knowles' show. They both do not take themselves quite so seriously, therefore making a much more entertaining show. If we are talking about debate, I've found Steven Crowder, Stefan Molyneux, and Dr. Jordan B. Peterson to be much better debaters.

6 RepliesBen Shapiro - see the CA piece that has already been posted DailyWire - social media tabloids in general are boring, this is no exception I am a pretty cut-and-dry Liberal, but I think it's important to have exposure to the "other side". While Shapiro and DW are certainly *representative* of what that side thinks, there's no real depth to either if you're looking to actually learn.

That being said, is the idea that gender is fluid stupid? Yes. Is it pointless and unnecessary? Yes. Do I believe that LGBT is sinful? Yes. Does an inside out penis mean you are the opposite gender? No. Those are my opinions, good luck trying to prove to me that they are wrong. That's what Shapiro does, and it just ends up with him pissing someone off for no good reason other than to look smart. As long as LGBT people do not impact my life in a negative way or try to pressure me to accept their opinions as fact, I don't care that they exist. I just ask that they are upfront to me about it; if we are already friends I won't throw the friendship away because of your opinions, no matter how poor I view them as. (As long as they aren't illegal or severely unethical.)

1 ReplyI like him more than most other conservative podcasts but he lacks any kind of critical thinking. It's great that he uses sources and hard numbers but he doesn't really look into the numbers. He just kinda takes them at face value.
