I get it. He was needed to operate the Mass Driver Cannon so that they could escape, but they couldn't leave him a Pelican or something? Wasn't the Autumn equipped with Archer Missiles? Or better yet, since the Autumn had been re-outfitted for its spec-ops mission, wouldn't it have made sense to install a Mass Driver Cannon to give it more firepower? If he HAD gone with them, Halo 1 might have been a no-brainer. One SPARTAN, with help of course, saved the human race. Two SPARTANS would have destroyed the Covenant before they hit Earth.
And while we're on the topic of secret missions, how EXACTLY were they planning on boarding a Covenant Capital Ship and kidnapping a Prophet? That sounds to me like a suicide mission.

A Hero gotta do what a hero gotta do.

Halo CE would have never happend.
-
I think it did have a MAC gun (Lol Magnetic Accelerator Cannon Gun?) but they were not in a position to fire on the covenant cruiser
Posted by: leo95alpha That is because Emile died early, If he didn't noble six would have left and become the main character of the Halo series which would ruin halo 1 remember cortana chose Six but after his death she needed another spartan so she chose John
Cortana chose Noble Six to be her courier from Sword Base to the Pillar of Autumn, not her host. Master Chief was always the one destined to take Cortana to the Halo. Jebus, doesn't anyone pay attention anymore?
Posted by: Sapphir3 edit2: damn i just realized cannon has already been broken... because she was with John before the covenant arrived on Reach... damnit :(
Apparently Halsey's journal explains it. Something about Cortana being split/duplicated so that one half went to the PoA to assist them on/in planning their mission and the other half stayed behind in Halsey's lab under Sword Base to help her crack the Forerunner database and discern the location of Installation 04. So Noble Six was basically reuniting the two halves and providing the PoA's Cortana with the Halo's location.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but during the "firefight" like battle against those Brutes, I remember that a Pelican comes by and drops off a bunch of marines to help you. Why the heck didn't Six get on that Pelican!?
-
There may be many reasons why he didn't board. My guess is, he wanted to die with his team, die on the planet they've all sacrificed themselves for.
-
WTF thanks for the spoiler warning jerk.
-
As my friend stated it: "Dude, just get on the damn ship." Would you rather the Covenant ship destroyed the Pillar of Autumn, thus making the events of every other Halo game not possible?
-
You do realize humanity was still getting its ass kicked when there was around 30 Spartan II's and hundreds of Spartan III's right? [Edited on 09.23.2010 7:06 PM PDT]
Posted by: FUNKY B0B Because they made Halo CE without any Noble Sixes in it.
no, whith out his help there wasn't a Halo CE, Halo2 and Halo3. halo3 ODST was just a short story on what hapend in New mobassa in Halo 2 and dosen't count. [Edited on 09.23.2010 7:02 PM PDT]
Posted by: BarroomHero because bungie wanted to piss you off!!
Definently no. Noble 6 went to the big gun to protect it from the attacking cruiser. otherwise the humanity would have lost cause the cruiser was on the way to glass the whole area whitch means no halo, no more John and the doomsday to all living beings even for the flood thanks to the damm prophets. >:(

Who could say no to having a go on that beast of a weapon!
-
because it's the NOBLE way to go
-
Because it allowed for the best ending in videogame history.

he had to stay and find that last BOB

Because they made Halo CE without any Noble Sixes in it.

idk... i think its just dumb that he did that... i think he couldve escaped... [Edited on 09.23.2010 6:47 PM PDT]

It had a smaller mac gun that let it fire three successive shots with smaller rounds. 2 rounds to knock down the covenant shields and a 3rd round to deliver a knock-out punch.
-
He wanted Credits for a Warrant Officer.
Posted by: avmf8 Why did pillar of autum not have more guns. I mean if I was designing a war ship every inch of its outer surface would be guns. I would be going "more guns please I can still see the hull"
You can only add so many guns without going into debt trying to buy ammo and pay for all the weapon systems as well as their operators. And then you have to remember the fact that a single Covenant battleship can melt through your ship's hull in a single beam. Whoops, there goes all of that money.
Posted by: leo95alpha ...remember cortana chose Six but after his death she needed another spartan so she chose John
maybe... but im willing to go with another explanation of cortanas "choice" of noble 6. She chose him to carry her to the Chief, but chose the Chief to carry her to halo and such. Why do i come up with this? it doesnt break cannon first off (in a book she explicitly chooses John), secondly, he actually hands her to keyes, and keyes seems to be expecting it to be handed over. If she chose 6 then john due to his death, she would have probably been in 6's armor like John, but she wasnt because she chose John, and 6 was just used as the tool to Reach him. (cwhatididthar? Reach... o.0) edit: yes, that was hell of off topic, but i think it needed to be said ;) edit2: damn i just realized cannon has already been broken... because she was with John before the covenant arrived on Reach... damnit :( [Edited on 09.23.2010 6:46 PM PDT]

The Autumn can only shoot straight. the MAC guns can not be aimed. they run the entire length of the ship. The ship was docked, stationary, pointing away from the cruiser. It was helpless. Six stays, taking out the covie ship before it melts the Autumn. After that, the Autumn has to run, there just was no time to rescue one soldier, even a Spartan. Priority was the Chief and Cortana. Everyone did what they had to do.

What a coincidence. I'm on that part right now :P
Posted by: Ice Pinata Gee, I don't know. Maybe he witnessed his whole team die and didn't want to seem like a god damn coward by escaping right after emile gave his life... I mean it would seem kinda crappy of Noble Six to just leave after all of his team members sacrificed their lives in defense. It's like. Hey! My team just died for a noble cause. Oh well, I'll just leave now.
Hypothetically, that's not it at all. Some soldiers feel survival guilt, yes. However most want to survive as long as they can, so they can kill as many enemies as possible responsible for their friend's deaths. Sure if I saw all my friends die I would want to die too, but I'd rather live and fight and kill every last one of them instead. Also, to die anyways would take less away from your teammate's sacrifices. Emile died but you escaped? Emile would be happy. Emile dies and then you do too? Not so much.
