What is the purpose of the Vex terraforming Nessus?

Now as a we all know, vex take over worlds, consume organic beings, and turn them into stone and metal. But what is the purpose of Nessus? Instead of it being like other worlds the vex have taken over, it can support life. Both small fauna and plant life. Why? I think I can explain. But first, we must understand the other installations are. Mars: Home of the Black Garden. More of a offsite research facility than a Vex Planet. Venus: Home to the vault of glass. A facility meant for testing the effects of time on specific subjects and areas. Mercury: Home to the Infinite Forest. The whole planet is a simulation machine, designed to help the vex conquer other worlds and adapt to other scenarios. Io: Most notably the Pyramidion. It’s either a Storage facility for data on the Infinite forest, or a trans dimensional terminal for fast travel. It also possibly a offsite research site for the study of the Travelers Energy Now, for Nessus. Why did the vex transform it? Based on the other sites I’ve listed, all of them don’t have anything to do with life, with the exception of the Black Garden. I believe I have the answer. According to failsafe, she witnessed them reformat all molecules in the planet, including life. I believe Nessus is a planet that is a research site on how the vex can create life, rather than always destroying it. That would explain their interactions with the old exodus black crew, and why they haven’t killed off all life on it. But I could be reading too much into this :/

  • Well the Vex presence went unnoticed for hundreds of years, it was likely used as a sort of staging ground or experimentation site.

  • In answer your question as to the purpose of the Vex in Terraforming Nessus, is that Nessus serves as a experimental testing facility for the Vex and the location of a massive prison controlled by the Vex. With Guardians, Fallen and Cabal now present on Nessus it has become the perfect test bed for the Vex to obtain new data on their enemies. As for the prison itself, all that we know is that it is huge. What we enter during the Release mission is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg and I cannot even begin to imagine what else they have imprisoned down there.

  • I feel like the Vex are the new Flood. They just infect everything they can.

    • The Vex were made by "The Darkness", and they did not believe in a thing called love. 🤭 Their predessesors came from the future, when the universe was about to collapse. A great machine with AI was created by the descendants of the Humans, Exo, Awoken, Fallen, and Cabal. This machine was built as an "ark" to hold the data patterns of the races, so they could survive their escape and passage back in time. However, something went wrong during the journey and the "ark" arrived in the distant past in a damaged state. The ark's AI started to work on a solution. Guided by its programmed algorithms and altered condition, it began to build mechanical bodies to hold the energetic fluid that it was tasked to protect. The new protocol was to multiply and colonize, something the AI was able to extract from data records within it's library. Once suitable planets were established, the AI would activate the the "rebirth"(transmat tech) procedure, and deliver the races to their new home (in the past). That never happened. Unfortunately, for them the "Darkness" was encountered. Like a planet of xenomorphs, it took over the "bodies" and repurposed them for a darker destiny. 😏 They became "The Vex". The fluid they hold is the imprisoned descendants of the Humans, Exo, Awoken, Cabal, and Fallen.

      • are the vex driven by the same primal nature to spread and multiply? seems like reason enough to me.

        • i think the just didn't mess up the traveler's terraform like they did on Mercury. where Mercury was more fragile, Nessus is more resilient further away from the sun. as for Milk making, if it takes an animal to make milk the only thing we've seen alive is birds.

          • They also convert life forms to Vex. See Asher Mir. That was a revelation pieces together here recently with the new NFs gear lore. Credit to Myelin for making the video putting it together. The Vex milk is living entities converted to radiloria. That’s a curve ball that hints are more things to be revealed. Because it was assumed that was them. Now we don’t know who or what the “Vex” truly are. This could be the finalizing of the retcon for them. One: guessing at their motives is extremely hard. Without knowing their origin we don’t know enough. Especially in...Light...of the new revelations. Mars: you got it right Venus: I’m hesitant to say that is where the Vault is housed. Whereas the Black Garden was a physical location moved out of time and space at first, the Vault is in the Vex Network. Venus just has gates to access. Far as we know (we don’t know when it was made either) Mercury: on the button again Io: probably all three Nessus: Doubtful. Look at the Dark Future in Curse. Doesn’t seem like they care about making life. A lot of the life on Nessus is from SIVA messing around. That’s why it’s all red. The reason the Vex are such a mystery if the heavy editing they’ve been undergoing since D1 day one. If it’s over, answers should be coming.

I think Io---and the Pyramidion---is a Vex "birthing chamber"....or a military production facility. Remember the "Lake of Radiolarian fluid" that Asher Mir claimed we'd see....but never found during the Pyramidion strike? There was video footage that showed Vex Goblins being "created" out of such a lake that was leaked to the Internet months ago....that Bungie quickly forced to be taken down. I believe that video was the inside of the Pyramidion. Nessus...I believe is a "research" facility. I believe the Vex converted Nessus as a means to examine and come to understand the Humans...and then the Fallen they encountered there. "Now we will test......"

              • Well, Nessus has a lot of vex milk, which is the only organic part of the vex. Maybe it's a spawning planet/nursery.

                • The Vault of Glass is NOT a facility for testing the effects of time. It is a simulation and prototype of a Hive throne world through which the Vex can bend the laws of reality, enabling the Sol Progeny to take over the universe.

                    • firstly pyramidions are standard vex constructions to hold data second mars was the gate to the black garden not the garden itself also the vex do not necessarily terraform a planet for a specific purpose they do it to expand the collective and their computing power

                    • No reason, they just wanted to make it pretty and alive so they had another thing they could destroy as their appetite for death and destruction is insatiable...

                    • The infinite forest, the vault of glass, the pyramidion and even maybe the black garden (I say that cause the black garden is supposedly the vex’s attempt at a hive throne realm and was their birth place so it could’ve existed outside of space time and not exactly have been pinned to one specific location but that was debunked with the Taken on mars missions.) did not exist until the vex arrived at the planet. We don’t know where the vex really come from as they seem to exist everywhere in and even maybe out of the space time continuum (think I spelled that right) but what we do know is that the vex want to spread through out the universe so that everything that exists is vex and everything that’s not vex is eradicated. So that’s why their on Nessus.

                    • I think a better question is why do we care if the Leviathan consumes it? It's not in our solar system, the only living inhabitants are the Vex and Fallen, and there is no game changing Golden Age tech there (unless there's something inside the Exodus). Why should we care about it? And before anyone asks about Failsafe, she's an AI. We could just transfer her programming into another computer.
