It’s obvious that with the way the grind has become ineffective, that Bungie’s goal isn’t to sabotage their own game. No, the answer is actually worse.
Granted I’m basing this on knowledge gained from only to years of psych studies, so I asked a psychologist friend of mine.
The conclusion of the resulting discussion was that the game is based on an intrinsic desire for gamers to complete a task or series of tasks.
That innate desire for completion is our Achilles heel. When we turn in dozens of Iron Banner packages and still can’t get a full package of armour, our desire to play more increases.
Playing Destiny 2 then becomes like any other addiction and just like gambling or a drug, it has been designed from the ground up to foster addiction with entertainment being the lure but definitely not the payoff.
Bungie, you are one evil pack of bastards.

1 ReplyYou bought from the Bungie store to get an emblem... addicted much?

While this could be the case, I think it's more likely they just didn't design the game. I was much more addicted to Destiny 1, which actually felt rewarding to spend time in and acquire cooler gear.

you get on reddit too much

Edited by GraciousEel761: 11/29/2017 3:02:36 AMThey don't make money based on how much we play. They make money if we buy their games. Also, everything you said is BS. Not getting all the armor didn't make we want to play more. It just kept me playing every day. I only got 2 packages a day last week, 3 on 1 day. So that was 15 total. How addicting! I guess I probably wouldn't have kept playing Iron Banner if I had gotten all the gear though. The point was, it didn't make me want to grind because I knew I would still be able to get the gear next season.

Gamers game to complete tasks?? Say it isn't so!! I thought it was just cause of the pretty lights. Thanks man!

It's been that way since D1, gotta get the kids hooked

How the game sucks.
-
The irony of this is that Destiny 2 cured my Destiny addiction. I'm now FREE of Destiny. Thanks, Bungie.

Nah. D2 is like methadone for D1 addiction

5 RepliesIt was worse in D1. Things you could receive actually had an outcome on your game play. Now Power Level doesn't even matter. Lol. I still play D2 for some fun here and there, but they really killed that underlying "need" feeling of "having" to log in to D1 and play to get ahead, or at least just to keep up.
