In-game language in Halo: Reach (Please read this)
Hey there Forum,
So, this thread probably won't make sense to most of you, as most of you are Americans, but I speak in the name of the foreign Halo Fans. Well, I live in Brazil and the Halo: Reach ads say it will be "Completely in Portuguese". Well, the same thing happened to Halo 3: ODST and, as a result, we weren't able to change the in-game language to English, even though my Xbox language setup is in English and trust me, Halo in Portuguese sucks. However, in Halo 3, the in-game language was the same as the Xbox setup language. That was perfect.
So Bungie, I know Reach has gone gold already and I don't know if you gave us the option to change the language, but if you didn't please, I beg you, release a language pack update or anything like it.
And to the Forum: I know this problem won't affect much of you guys, but please keep this thread alive so it comes to Bungie attention.
NOTE: By in-game language, I mean the dialogues during campaign and Firefight. When the Xbox default language is set to English, the menus are in English, but it makes my ears bleed listening to the horrible translation.

EDIT: Wow, thanks guys. I appreciate all your support. Made my day and hopefully will make September 14th an even better day for me and every Halo Fans in non-English speaking countries
EDIT 2: Someone misunderstood me when I said "this thread probably won't make sense to most of you, as most of you are Americans". What I actually meant was that Americans and people from English-speaking countries probably weren't even aware of this issue and in [b] no way [/b] it was my intention to offend anyone. I am sorry for that.

Strange. I study in Holland and preordered the limited edition at Media Markt. Everything including all the campaign dialouge was in English. Then again almost all games are in English here. :) One a different note, my friends in Germany have the same issue as OP, but at least the translation/voice acting wasn't that bad. Although it would seem that we all agree that the original version is best left in English.

I understand how frustrating this can be, i have a friend that loves japenese movies and point blank refuses to watch tthem in english for the same reason

I believe all the Halo games are non region locked, meaning you could buy an English or American copy online somewhere and hey presto, English audio is yours.

FYI and all that, Greek versions of Halo: Reach are in English. Guy in the store said (in pretty good English) that he wished there were Greek translations, but it only happens in the Pro Evo Soccer games. All 360 games are English. So there you go, but I'm happy I got an English one, just gotta try and sell the French one...

100 % I live in Belgium and I have the same problem, but with the dialogues being in French. I usually buy all of my games in the english version but sometimes the first releases are only in the local language...

Check this out bungie! I support this idea(Im american). Think of it this way guys. If the game was all in portugese wouldnt you want them to do some sort of translation or dialouge option? I'll take that as a yes :D 100% Support!, Dcaxeslinger

Hello, glad I found this! Got a question, hope someone might know here... I work on a cruise ship and take my 360 with me on each contract. Cruising the Med right now and finally found a shop in Toulon, France that had Halo: Reach. Found a copy in Salerno, Italy, but that had the Exclusively in Italian sticker on the front, so didn't buy it. The one in Toulon had no such sticker, so I bought it... Aaarrgghhh, the in-game audio is French with no option to change it to English. My question then is, if I were to buy it in Greece (ship stops in Pireaus near Athens in a few days) will it be in Greek? Anyone likely to know that here? I can't imagine Bungie doing a Greek language version, but who knows? I did buy Halo 3 in Greece back in 2007 (I think) and that was in English. Worse thing about working on a cruise ship with you 360? The internet connection does not have enough bandwidth to support XBOX Live :(

Anyway OP they could just have you download a language pack. It does need to be fixed. It should be a required option if you have LIVE. The reason why they won't include it on the disc is because of space.

I can see how this would be a problem. Kinda like the sort of problem I would have if I could only watch anime in the crappy english dubs. Maybe you could import a copy from a english-speaking country?

As some poster previously pointed out, it's really sad that companies like Bungie, Microsoft and Blizzard (Starcraft 2 has a similar problem but at least the US copy has English dialogs) don't include a simple language setting option in their $60 + taxes products, while any $5 movie DVD bought at clearance does. It's a real shame that Bungie, a great company by itself, does not seem to respect its customers enough to provide simple choices. [Edited on 10.03.2010 9:38 AM PDT]

same problem here. on work experience in france so bought a french copy. i agree with indirect beast, none of the voices have personality when they are dubbed. WE WANT CHANGE

Reviving this for great freaking justice. I want to play it in the original language, is it too much to ask? None of the voices of Noble have any personality at all in the spanish dub. It sucks.

I'm just a Méxican guy who wants to enjoy his Halo: Reach game he just bought along with the special edition console, even hopelessly hoping (Really) the disc version would actually have the original voice-over audio, but no, it didn't just happen, I haven't completed or even started the campaign because of this, it's just like buying a DVD which has no options for the original audio track, Bungie, I've followed you for quite a bit, since Halo: Combat Evolved actually and i hadn't said anything about this, please please us with a DLC of the Original English dialogue. Same problem! Got a copy of Reach in South Korea (cause I'm studying for a year) and intentionally didnt bring my copy of halo 3 cause I knew reach was coming out. The box and instruction manual was in Korean, but my system settings are in English and I was banking on the ability to change the language back to english if I had any problems. So everything is in english, menus and all, except the in-game dialogue! I feel like I am missing out on so much story that I cant even bring myself to play the campaign. I'm so disappointed and I dont know what to do, whether to try to resell this copy to a korean kid and buy a new one or wait until Bungie acknowledges this problem. I was so excited, I love the Halo story. Now I want to just cry... :(. Please Bungie, please...

I have the same problem, i bought this game while i was visiting Spain, because it would stay sold out forever back home. I bought it at Gamestop and asked if it would be in English, and clerk said "It should be". Until i get home and realize the campaign is completely Spanish with pretty bad subtitles that i'm too lazy to read. It would be great in Bungie could please release a language pack!

We really, really need an English language pack. We got the legendary edition in Mexico hoping it was in English...I wont say the Spanish translation is THAT horrible but makes you go "DERP" at some points. Please! Someone at Bungie need to address this. D:

I found that if you turn the subtitles to on for the campaign (the in-game voices since Halo 2 have a scratchy authentic background which just messes the dialogue) that when you come back later after you turn the xbox off they reset to off again, very annoying tbh.
