When I die from unusual accidents but primarily just being a dumbass i get the message "killed by the Architects". This reminds me a lot of back in Halo 3 when i would be a dumbass and the game would tell me i was killer by the Guardians. So, who/what are the Architects?
-
i think its because the architects built it, so if you die to a wall(minotaur stomp or something like that), the architects take the credit because withought them, you never would have died

This is still speculation and I'm not claiming to know what's the real answer (because not knowing makes it more fun), but "death by architect" is caused by the game physics engine killing you. Stopping inertia, environment explosions, getting crushed, etc. In general game mechanics sense, it's a catch-all for any death not caused directly by enemy AI or players. Whether it means Bungie developers are making a self-referential joke that they are responsible for your death because they made the physics, or if they're referencing they are using common game physics originally "architected" by someone else, I can't be sure of.

Ergo, concordantly, vis-a-vis.
It’s a joke. You are killed by the “architects” when you hit an object too hard. The pun is, that whoever built it. (An architect) killed you. I can’t believe how many people don’t get this pun.
I always figured the architect was some fat guy sitting in a developer's office who spends most of his free time watching me play video games and screwing with my game for fun. Like in early D1 (when you'd get kicked to orbit for wiping) when I was soloing the nightfalls and would get " lost connection to the Destiny servers" for the first time that day, having had no prior issues with connectivity, while I'm fighting the boss and he's at 10% health.

1 ReplyYou’d think there the vex because where in a vex simulation in d2. But there in d1 too wich means where in a simulation that’s bigger than the vex and there the architects of the simulation, in theory of course

1 ReplyEveryone knows the Architect is Will Ferrell.

It's the invisible hand of the True Gods. A collection of eldritch horrors who existed before time and will continue long after it has ended. Or it's a funny name Bungie gave for situations where you die and it : A: can't be explained logically B: can't be explained without laughing C: to describe what happened would take up far to much space, since there's no way of shortening "you got flung across that map into a Fallen Ketch because game physics went out the door for a moment but they're back now." D: is just a plain old environmental death

The shady guys down the alley.
-
inb4 it's the Darkness But no, it's just another word for the Bungie Halo "Guardians". Map hazards.
-
Back in the Halo days if you were killed by random shit (i.e. cones, falling through the floor, etc.) it would display "Killed by the Guardians" on your screen. Now that we are guardians they had to find a different hazard.

2 RepliesThe developers. Its Bungie's humorous way of telling you that you've been killed by an in-game object. Usually---in Destiny---because some powerful AI enemy smacked you into it hard enough to kill you.
