Destiny 2 PC - no sound with bluetooth headphones

Does this game not support it? There was sound in the title menu -> introduction scene -> character creation menu. But as soon as i click on my character to load it, the sound dies off from then on. The first time i tried this, the opening cutscene (without sound ofc) took pretty long to load too. My headphones are sony MDR-1000X, running the game on windows 10 home edition, if that helps. Would like to note that its been like this since the beta, i thought it would have been fixed by now.

  • 8 years later and this is still a viable solution? Bungie needs to start hiring based on merit and not how purple your hair is.

  • That's not really a problem with Destiny 2. The problem is the device of ANY bluetooth headset. The thing is that bluetooth headphones with microphone function have 2 modes - listening mode AND audio + voice recording mode on headphone microphones. When you just watch a video on YouTube, for example, the microphone does not work and therefore you have all right with the sound, but as soon as you go into a voice channel in Discord or you get a call on the phone, the headphones will go into a mode where the sound works worse. Why is this? Because for some reason the headphone and microphone chips can't work in the so-called “maximum performance” mode, which is why you need to switch to a worse sound. In Destiny's case, you have no sound for several reasons: 1. Comuter settings; 2. Voice chat is enabled in the game. The simple solution is to simply turn off voice chat in the game settings.

  • What worked for me was going to sound settings, finding my "speaker" or headphones, and then disabling "Spacial Sound" and it started working again immediately

When The Final Shape launched i wasn't getting any audio. Nothing here fixed it but i manage to. my fix was opening up the sounds, right clicking my headphones, configure speakers, changing to mono and saving, which made it come from just the left side of my headphones, then setting it back to stereo, which fixed my problem entirely. hope this helps anyone.

ok so i went through all of these suggestions and my fix was simply opening up "sounds" settings and going to recording devices and disabling the hands free audio option and it fixed the issue and back to quality sound and i can hear everything again!

So I tried literally of the solutions people had below, and this is the combination that worked with my Galaxy Buds: 1. Sound control panel - disable the "headset" option. Mine was "galaxy buds.....AG" 2. Turn on (or enable) Stereo Mix (not sure if that has anything to do with it, but I did it.) 3. Find App And Volume Preferences - make sure D2 [edit] AND STEAM has your headphones selected 4. In the Sound menu, under Input - Select Stereo Mix (again, not sure if this means anything, but mine is working now, so.) 5. in Sound Control Panel, under Playback> right click the device> properties> advanced> uncheck "allow applications to take exclusive..." hit apply. Also, thanks to literally everyone in this post. because this is literally a conglomeration of all of your solutions. QUICK EDIT: PLEASE NOTE - Just had to redo this b/c I got new headphones... for STEP 3: Settings>System>Sound - then scroll all the way to the bottom, and its the last thing. Took me 40 minutes to re-find this... jeez.

          • Literally bought a Bluetooth headset recently because my old headset (which I've been using for the past...5-6 years?) bit the dust. Played Persona 5 Strikers just fine with it, before launching Destiny 2 and having the same issue on this thread. Bungie please for the love of god give us an actual FIX. I don't want to have to disable my mic because that's what's letting me RAID

          • 3 and a half years now. I'm listening to music from youtube just fine. If I start destiny, it kills my BT headphones no matter what I change and enable or disable. Exit D2 and it some comes back on.

          • The only way to get high quality audio from BT headphone is to disable the headphone's microphone. Or you can get low quality audio + microphone by choosing the other output option that your BT headphone has, in the sound settings.

            • I bought a Steelseries 7 here and now in 2020 and was still having this issue. I set the defaults as @TechnoTom74 and others have suggested "Under Playback, I have "Arctis Pro Wireless Game" as my default device and "Arctis Pro Wireless Chat" as my default communications device. Under Recording, I have "Arctis Pro Wireless Chat" as my default device." I still had no joy until I opened the volume mixer and selected "App volume and device preferences" at the bottom. Specified the devices I wanted for output and input for D2 and it seem to have stuck. I can see I'm late to the party, but I hope this helps someone.

              • I found a simple solution where you can have sound and the mic working. Download a program called Voice meter banana. Set the mic as an input device and your headset as an output device. Then you can have both sound and the mic working.

              • My solution was going to sound settings, manage devices, and disabling headset as an output. Hope this helps.

                • I am NOT using Bluetooth but my SteelSeries Artis Pro Wireless is experiencing the same issue as if it was using Bluetooth. I have to disable my Mic in Windows preferences to hear any audio in Destiny 2. Under Playback, I have "Arctis Pro Wireless Game" as my default device and "Arctis Pro Wireless Chat" as my default communications device. Under Recording, I have "Arctis Pro Wireless Chat" as my default device. This is the recommended configuration as described in the setup video here: https://youtu.be/fk9ET-iRZ90 Screenshot of my settings (1): https://imgur.com/a/QmyVuQk This configuration worked perfectly fine for the last 3 years of Destiny 2 on the Blizzard launcher. I could hear game sounds and use in-game chat or Discord without any issues. Now that Destiny 2 is on Steam I am only able to get in-game sound if I disable "Arctis Pro Wireless Chat" under Playback and Recording. In this case, I can not use my microphone! Screenshot of my settings (2): https://imgur.com/a/qd6MBdP I can also get the sound to work by disabling "Arctis Pro Wireless Game" under Playback. In this case, I can use my microphone but the audio quality is terrible and sounds as if I'm on a phone call. Screenshot of my settings (3): https://imgur.com/a/FrJJ2T4 I've been playing with no mic in configuration (2) but I would really love using configuration (1) as I have been for the last 3 years. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

                • Having this same problem with my sennheiser HD 4.40 BT headphones. Unlike other methods, there's no way to turn this off. In addition, Destiny 2 is severely slowing down mouse bluetooth, causing input delay / lag because it's forcing hands free bluetooth to be on. Thankfully my sennheiser headphones comes with an Audio Jack, but it's still troubling. (Turning off the headphones, which it forces itself to do when the audio jack is plugged in will restore bluetooth delay for the mouse back to normal.)

This is really annoying! I have to disable my mic in Windows to hear audio. Which is obviously a problem if I want to talk to people in this social video game. Every other game works. Every other program works. Just Destiny 2 has this issue that has apparently been around since 2017!! Bungie please fix this!

I have a Logitech G993 and I fiddled around withe a couple different things from recommendations on the web. These two things fixed the issue. Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar, Select Open sound settings, Choose Sound control panel on the right, right click on your headset and click properties, click advanced and turn off "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" amd switch your default format to "16bit, 44100 hz (CD Quality)". Make sure you restart destiny every time you make a change. If this doesnt work try doing one instead of the other but this is the only thing that made it work again.

                • Same here. I have the game migrated to steam and the problem exists. The sound ends when the game detects the bluetooth device. I haven't this problem on the rest of the trillions of programs and games for windows, it only happens on Destiny 2. I had uploaded a video to show the problem (it's not spam, I'm not youtuber): https://youtu.be/tEzy7aTFdz8 The solution of disabling internal speakers it's really crap. I am waiting for a fast solution. Thanks.

My solution to this problem - disable the headset device (not the headphone device) as speakers AND as Mic. Then you don't need to disable chat. Right click the speaker icon, choose sounds. Go to playback devices - disable wireless handsfree, or headset, or anything that isn't heaphones that has the same name as the bluetooth device you're wanting to use. Then go into Recording devices tab, disable it there too as an input device. What I found was if I had just the playback one disabled - intro screen had sound, but as soon as I chose my character, I lost sound with an audible click (game was changing devices based on microphone because of chat [which is why disabling chat works]). Hope this helps someone else. - Jessica
