Assuredly there must be other, smaller and arguably less important settlements out there, but how many people are crammed inside the walls of the Last City, do you think?

I'd say 50 million. You see those huge-ass skyscrapers under the Traveler? Those things are heckin tall

All of them

Six. And they survive by eating the lifeless corpses of the millions of Guardians that jump from the Tower daily. I'd jump too if I were stuck in this game. xD

Nope. I live in a posh, planned suburb outside of the last city. All the 3k sq/ft homes all look cookie cutter, we all fly the same two Nanophoenix and Commitaus ships. There are overpriced coffee/sandwich shops with an over abundance of yoga pants, pumpkin spice coffee and Ugg boots. Fortunately for us, property taxes are high to keep the riff raff of the city out and jobs are less based on actual skill than a slightly overt sense of nepotism.

4 RepliesThe City is Divided into several sections:(going inward) -The overpopulated Shanty Town: some parts of the M.Wall are used for structures -Remnants of the wall of Midgard: The lower class river Town just beyond shows the division -Wall of Asgard: Middle Class live behind this wall in a busy city, whose buildings compare to our own skyscrapers today. -Valhalla District: The upper class closest to the traveler with a thin wall that is barely visible where the wealthiest of people live in the city away from the struggles of the out world. -The Iron City: tall spires directly under the Traveler were the Golden age has yet to truly die, where the seat of power resides in the city and the wealthiest rule over the masses without care. The spires of this city are larger than the walls of the Vangard and almost touch the traveler itself. there are circuit lines that match the height of the evergreen trees that can grow up to 100 feet, if we assume they are full grown and that the circuit lines maintain their height then we can surmise the shanties are stacked to similar height. It would appear that some of the containers are of similar make to those used today in naval cargo transport which are on average about 8ft high, only 2 feet shorter than the average home roof so well within tolerance for the average human. Given the population overgrowth requiring these to house people, I would wager there is at least 1 family, 3 more likely living in each and given the size of the area they cover I would wager we are dealing with the perimeter of the wall have residence almost all the way around. The inner cities will likely have a fraction of that number given the better conditions where each person would have their own room and live like those who rent in New York today. I would wager the wall of Asgard starts at the radius or half way to the Vangard wall, meaning the population would be probably around 3/5's to 4/5's the population outside it. I would imagine the size around that of New York and that initial population would have been around the same though I am excluding underground living spaces, which may have been built in order to maintain the travelers height and it's "protection". Given this I would wager the number would be double for the city from the wall of Asguard inward. Currently NY City has a population of 19.84 million, which means the inner city would have about 39.68 million and the outer city would have about 15.872 million, with a approximate sum of 55,552,000 but given Bungie's love of the number 7 I would likely add a second guess to match that number to 77.7 million. but that is assuming the under-city matches the dimensions of the upper-city and that population is spread out evenly, which they are not so we can give leeway to cramped conditions of the Shanty Town(s) which may give us the additional 22.2 million.

6 RepliesWe can all guess, and be equally right or wrong. Given the fact that it extends to the horizon (about 13 miles, I think) figure at least 150 square miles. Assume an even balance of residential, commercial, and industrial, so 50 square miles with people. Eliminate schools, libraries, fire stations, whatever. Call it 45 square miles of homes..Assuming an average population density of 10,000 per square mile (no skyscrapers, few or no private one-family residences), say 400,000-500,000 people. Assuming that the human population probably ballooned to about 10-15 billion in the Golden Age (balancing increased birth control to longer lifespans and more resources available), that means that about 29,999 out of every 30,000 people died in the Collapse. So there are a lot of potential Guardians still out there, asleep under the pall of darkness and awaiting the summons of a Ghost...
