So obviously firefly gets all the hype with the dead orbit scout rifle, but I have owned scout rifles with with each perk before. From my experience, explosive rounds seem like the smarter choice. You don't need precision shots, they always explode, and you can damage enemies by shooting other enemies or walls close to them. Is there something I missed with the firefly perk? Not really sure why that is the more desirable perk?
Edit: so it sounds like the general consensus is that explosive rounds have a slight advantage in most pvp situations thanks to the year 2 ninja buff, while firefly has a more clear advantage in pve. Ultimately it seems that most prefer firefly. Thanks for the feedback guardians!

I've got treads upon stars with both, it works well in iron banna, the other perk is, who's next.
-
I have a not like the others with both
-
Explosive rounds cause a "portion" of the damage in an area. So instead of doing just 45 damage to the body it'll deal 30+15 aoe. Firefly causes enemies to explode damaging near-by enemies. Causes full damage plus the explosion aoe.

Edited by Tmh: 7/1/2016 7:06:09 PMBoth.
i have an imago loop on my warlock
I have explosive rounds on my Hand of Judgement. What I like about it is I can nail a phalanx square in the shield and he gets damage and lowers the shield for the headshot. 1-2 combo. I have the Hung Jury with Firefly and I actually prefer the Judgement.

6 RepliesI prefer explosive rounds with crowd control.

Go with explosive rounds. Firefly is literally game-breaking.

Edited by WarlordoftheWest: 7/1/2016 6:51:23 PMWhy not both? My sniper rolled both and with the ace of spades and a rocket every thing is explosions!!!!

3 RepliesBut... Why not both? 😂
-
2 RepliesEvery time I do a Vex strike, I pray to RNGesus for an Imago Loop with both.
-
7 RepliesDid they fix the problem with firefly where sometimes your game would crash in the middle of an explosion? I had to change the perk on my tuonela Scout rifle cuz my game crashed a couple times.
-
firefly = PvE for clusters of enemies. Explosive rounds = both
-
I have a Not Like the Others with both of those perks. Probably my favorite PvE gun.
-
I have a couple snipers that have both. It looks cool when you headshot a group of ads.
-
You still need precision shots. All it does it spread the damage a bit further out, but it's not enough to hit the chest. Both of them are best on sniper rifles, IMO. They're pretty much tied in usefulness, as they can both get kills behind walls (if you killed someone first, with Firefly) and corners without actually hitting the person you're aiming for.

Explosive rounds have a pretty small AoE and their damage is dependent on that of the gun. Firefly has a much larger AoE and its damage is independent of the gun used (aside of its element). Explosive rounds also have a tendency to block precision kills preventing abilities like Firefly or Outlaw from procing.

1 ReplyTo me it's that firefly is purely more satisfying and it feels like you earned it.
-
1 ReplyI use implosive rounds because I like being different.
-
1 ReplyI like firefly on snipers, explosive on primary's. Shit dude, auto rifles need explosive rounds!!!
-
Explosive seems to mess with my aiming due to the animation, never used it on FB.Does explosive rounds stagger enemies it damages? Either way it seems that explosive rounds is better for pvp and firefly for pve, however there are always better perks in the middle column to be had IMO.
-
Explosives does a better job because each round deals bonus damage beyond what the weapon does. Firefly does the same to players around the person killed
-
1 ReplyExplosive rounds for Vex! Did everyone forget vog!? 1 shot w explosive 2 without.
-
Explosives rounds = good Firefly = good Firefly + explosives rounds = no good
-
Explosive rounds can be the better option when hip firing or engaging targets that like to hide behind cover...but firefly can be more gratifying.
-
The only time that explosive rounds don't make sense is if your gun also utilizes outlaw (i.e. Fatebringer). Explosive rounds can trigger crits and thus outlaw, but it can be rather inconsistent.

Why not both? #makefatebringergreatagain
