Whether you consider yourself a Voidwalker fan or not, you may or may not realize that there is a third slot for the Novabomb tree called "Lance".
I would first like to start off by asking, who actually uses Lance? Have you seen others use it? What are your opinions on it, do you think it is good or Bad?
Lance ~ Nova Bomb travels further and faster
The Nova Bomb gives up size and radius and trades it for velocity and precision. It becomes more difficult to hit a moving target and it is so small that it becomes more difficult to get multi kills.
I don't think it fairs too well in PvE. I don't have time on my hands to do research and stuff but just by judging with my own eyes, Lance brings an enemy ultras health bar down at much smaller rate than the other two options Shatter and Vortex...
I may be wrong but I honestly don't think much thought was put in to this option. I feel like Bungie could have given us something else for this slot but instead didn't feel like thinking and just threw a smaller Nova Bomb in to feel in the 4 slots they needed to fill.
So, if like me you feel that Lance is a waist of space than lets get creative and come up with some ideas for a new third Nova Bomb to replace Lance!

It's really a no brainer to use the triple nova bomb (shatter) over the other two since triple the blast radius, also don't use tracking on nova bomb, it is so minimal it just does barely anything.
-
1 ReplyUsed it because Hadouken

Not exactly creative, but it's logical. Unbreaking you are extremely hard to kill whilst using Nova Bomb.
-
I remember back in the crota days when combined arms was still I thing I would always use Lance on bigger maps and snipe people with it from very far. Whatever direction you shoot it in it will continue in a straight line until it hits something. It's pretty fun to use when you get the hang 9f it
-
Lance should also do direct impact damage at least enough to kill a major. This would make it a nice choice compared to shatter being an add wiper.
-
Lance is a good perk. It has a place. If I am paying control, shatter and vortex all the way. Lance on the other hand, for things like trials. You want to guarantee the kill. You can dodge, blink away from a nova bomb. Not a lance nova bomb. I have clips of me just jumping over a regular nova bomb, it jumping to the side. Lance gets there quick and accurate. In trials you don't want someone to blink away. You nail them before they can

Had 5 kills with it on heavy round, radius isn't that bad. Does improve range massively.
-
Depends on the map more open maps works good with angry magic ex.shores of time vortex with ahnialte in close maps is my logic
-
*Waste*

I use it. "Heavy ammo inbound" *nova bomb from half way across map* "LOOK AT THEM FALL!"
-
I only played void year 1. I used Lance in story mode and I loved it. Probably because I don't target crowds with it I go after the big game. Singers were about more then and they worked crowds. Also scatter grenades and gunfire make quick work. Use perks to get super. Launch waves of bombs at bosses even over a distance. Game over lol

2 RepliesThere is such a thing as master void walkers. These are the dudes who used the void abilities even when the taken King came out. You know them, have gone against them, their Nova bombs don't miss, their grenades chase you forever. Their scatter grenades strike true every time. While few in numbers, these rare warriors are just assholes, who blink at just the right time, land the perfect grenades and I now exactly when to rush you, and face palm you for being stupid and challenging them. These guys use Lance, and combine it with angry magic. Good luck trying to dodge that shit, specially from range. These are the guardians who don't hit the ground beneath you, they pound that Nova bomb down your throat after they have smashed it on your chest.

It throws me off getting hit by it. I'm like: "The hell? He's gonna try to land that from all the way back there OH GOD N---"

Edited by SolarCerberuS: 5/26/2016 11:13:25 PMIts usefull for maps such as vertigo in control either to assault or attack from the portal platform overlooking a and c. Also for maps with open heavy locations plus paired with bloom the reduction in aoe is barely noticeable. Imo they should revisit the obsidian mind helm and make it automatically award the lance perk.
-
Its difficult to hit people with too unless your above them.
-
I use it normally to help prevent other supers or heavy. It's a preference I chose because it's harder for the foe to dodge with how I move around the map.
-
Despite all this, it's funny as hell to see someone get obliterated by it.
-
Ive used it a fair amount. It becomes less a bomb and more like an arrow. I usually run it with the nova bomb tracking perk as without it i feel its pretty weak. Its good in that it doesn't have a curve anymore and that means that as long as you have line of sight on something you can generally just snipe them. Try it our as its not too bad
-
Never use it. I prefer shatter for popping bubbles
-
3 RepliesMaybe they should just give us 2shots with it?
-
Once upon a time, a lanced nova bomb with angry magic (tracking) was what I would use to drop Crotas shield.
-
I use it in Crucible mainly because I don't like using Vortex without the longer duration and Shatter isn't my preference.
-
I've used it for a while, but it really didn't last once I started using Shatter. I made the change after a PvP match where another warlock flies above me and causes my auto-aim to whip me around 180°. That ended up wasting my entire super as my nova bomb flew completely out of the map. Another issue was always hitting like a sliver of inseen geometry. With Shatter, I at least had two more bombs out that could connect. It was always infuriating to have a wasted super because it hit an invisible wall or something. One idea for a replacement perk would be "Displacement Theory". It would allow for the nova bomb to explode at line of sight to the nearest enemy, but it would have reduced explosion radius. It would kill the target you aim at and those directly next to them, but it wouldn't have the radius that Vortex or Shatter would have.

2 RepliesEvery class and subclass has something within custom rigged to be better in PVP. This is one of them (not for me, I run Shatter/annihilate for maximum damage/kills in pve [obsidian mind/bad juju] and for a guaranteed kill if I throw it in their general direction in PVP). But Lance definitely is more useful in PVP situations, that's where I see it mostly. But there isn't a strong build that can be centered around it. Vortex has mastery, and shatter has the benefit of AOE, but Lance? No build can work with it strongly.
