• EDIT: Never mind, I had to start it via console. It was a single player map.
Posted by: darthbob
Posted by: Turaga008 When I run certain maps on Custom Edition, I also get the "Gathering Exception data" error... I want to prevent this.
Probably no way you can prevent this; however, are you sure you're downloading Halo CE Maps from reputable sources?
Yeah, downloading from http://hce.halomaps.org/ . My computer is also pretty good, so I should have no trouble running it... [Edited on 03.27.2009 2:43 PM PDT]

 • Just like the others said, if the map is a modded or corrupted map, or you are running too many programs at the same time, or your computer hardware sucks, the computer will immediantly close down to prevent your computer from crashing or something like that...

 • An Exception is, well, something "exceptional" that happens in a program, to put it simply. When something goes wrong in a program, an exception can be "thrown", and then "caught". If something goes horribly, horribly wrong, an uncatchable exception is thrown. An example would be trying to load a corrupted map in Halo - there's no way the program can recover, and then forces itself to (as gracefully as possible) quit.

 •
Posted by: ItsNOTJohnston When in the early days playing Halo CE I always recieve it.But now there is a final patch that stop Halo CE from glitching, modding and hacking. It's v1.08 released in August 2008.
You are clueless. People were cheating again in a matter of days. And "exceptions" are basically bugs, often caused by users themselves when modding maps or running 3rd party programs. I get exceptions 10% of the time just by running Sightjacker.

 • People are still abusing the game even after 1.08. People are crashing servers for fun somehow.

 • BSOD = blue screen of death. your computer just stops everything and a blue screen pops up with a bunch of text.

 • To RedFlag- You know thats a good point.......my computer was running a virus scan at the time. Therefore the fans were working faster. I couldn't figure out how to quote! [Edited on 03.17.2009 10:12 AM PDT]

 • Oh man, does that bring back some memories... Anyways, "Gathering Exception Data" is the Halo PC equivalent to a BSOD. The game tried to process data that it couldn't and in the chaos the game just shut it self down to avoid 'damage' to your system. I saw this a lot back when patching .ppf's to .map files.

 • I make mods and maps for halo 1 and that just say you did something that the game was way too unable to process like 500000000 hogs its will lag then you will get that

 • I used to get exceptions when my games started overheating my laptop; buying some fans fixed that right up. In addition, my old PC used to get exceptions constantly since it had crappy hardware and could barely run the game with a good fps rate. I would suggest either upgrading hardware, or reinstalling the game.

 • welcome to halo live home of the worlds biggest lag the EXCEPTION! The exception is known throught halo online as the killer lag. it usaly happends if the host is cheating and forgets to shut his aim bot or dev off (fyi dev isnt cheating its deving lol) but can be caused by a lot of graphics such as explosions. to many ppl close together. and my favorite server shuting down while somthing special hapend like: voice talking like the guy who says Slayer and blue team flag returned. there is no awy of fixing this. only bungie could if they *cough make an update *cough*
