So, out of curiosity, I put "Xur" into Google translate, set detect language on the left, English on the right, and hit translate.
Apparently "Xur" is Somali for "free."
Do with that information what you will.

Apparently, there's an old folk tale about a merchant named Xur. He was always supposedly selling items of rarity and great power. I guess the catch was he always sold things you didn't want or need. That's why some people are disappointed when Xur rolls around. Maybe Bungie designed Xur around this supposed folk tale?
