I knew the game was at risk, but I didn't think it would happen so early. The halloween stuff is very cool and I am impressed with what Bungie did for halloween (especially the brand new themed pvp map... bravo bungie, seriously)... but, I saw the cardinal sin of micro-transactions. This awesome event also marked the start of real currency buying things that affect the grind (even if it is in a small way). I looked at what the trading company had in stock and was slightly disappointed when I saw packs that gave you "masks" but hey... still visual... nbd.
Then I progressed a little ways into the halloween quests and realized I needed to complete bounties with SPECIFIC masks (and of course destiny rng gives me 4 engram masks in a row)... They want you to buy those mask packs (and not even picking them, rng) to complete quests...
Since this is an event and temporary and I'm sure the rewards for completing the quests aren't insanely good or anything, I can somewhat look passed it. But this is a bad sign IMO.
What did you guys think of this?

When it first came out I thought it was pretty cool (Tbh, still do) But having to pay to keep them all is a little annoying, I think Xur should've sold the Glue for a ridiculous amount of Coins Because after all, this game is a giant grind. Say.. 1 Glue for 50 Coins Too much? That's the point. It rewards players for grinding, But because it's purely cosmetic players can choose to buy the packages to skip the grind. (I'm only saying skipping the grind is okay because it IS cosmetic) Especially with the amazing inventory Xur sold this week, not many players have a tonne of Coins to spare. So buying is still the obvious way to keep your masks, you could grind the heck out of the game to do it also. Although the Blue Skull Mask SHOULD be from the Silver Packages only, but maybe a little less RNG. Maybe once you've obtained a Legendary version of the mask, it won't drop again until you have all 16 (There are 17 but -1 for Blue Skull) You will still continue to get multiples of the same mask if it's only Rare, so more incentive to upgrade. Also the Quests? Not a big deal. Completion only rewards you with another Rare package. Seemed a little pointless to have the Quests, but maybe they'll hint to something more a bit later. (Or if Nothing, a difficult Raid / Trials challenge)

1 ReplyKey phrase. They WANT you to buy the masks. You don't HAVE to! Over course they want you to spend money, it's a business.

3 RepliesOr you could just not do the bounties and your world will still go on. After all two weeks to do them is not long enough right? S o m e P e o p l e C r y O v e r N o t h I n g

Don't bother with the quests it's easier just to farm dark beyond.
-
you can just patrol, do missions for candy, fill the sack, take back to eva. she rewards you with a mask. I almost completed the quests.
-
Since what they're selling is entirely cosmetic, it doesn't affect the meta of the game in the least. It's actually the best thing we can get: choice.
-
The quests simply give you another rare mask out of the blue package you get. TL;DR - As far as I can tell the only permanent non-emote rewards are the masks.

1 ReplyIt takes like 1-2 games to fill a bag, I've gotten almost all the masks already just from playing crucible. Don't blame Bungie for your RNG luck.
-
2 RepliesJust got my 10th (6th in a row) petra mask..... this is a money grabbing scam if I've ever seen one.... the RNG drop rate for new mask are worse than trying to win Carney games at a fair....
-
You have 2 weeks to complete those quests. There is ZERO need to buy anything. I just played mayhem and generally filled one candy bag per match. Sometimes it took 2 at the most.
-
You can get those by just playing the game.
-
Yeah keep getting same masks aswell,so its just Bungie way to milk Money:)
-
I think bungie should have put a tinfoil hat in with all of these masks for all these conspiracy theorists on the forums lol

4 RepliesWhich pvp map ?
-
Take note guardians... this is the beginning of the end.
-
2 RepliesThe quest give you a sack, the same reward as filling it with candy
-
3 RepliesIt takes 1-2 crucible games to fill a candy bag, it doesn't require any actual effort to get masks.
