In Minecraft, what happens when you dig straight down?
Do you reach something eventually?
And is it possible to dig straight up out of a cave?

You hit bed rock, which can't be mined, blown up, or dug through in any way shape or form. But some times there will be a hole, and well, you fall forever.

You'll either 1. Fall into a cave/dungeon/lava and die. 2. Hit bedrock and not be able to dig any deeper.

You'll reach down to lava (if it's minecraft classic you'll reach rocks), and to get out, use dirt/sand/cobble stone to fill the hole and get out.

you hit bedrock... and you can dig up, place a block below you, then dig up some more to go straight up

You reach the center of the earth. Or, you fall through the roof of a cave and die.

You reach bedrock, which you can't dig through. And yes you can dig straight up, just watch out for lava/water/gravel/sand/creepers.

I hear tales of a bottomless abyss. and yes you can dig straight up if you put the rock you mining under your feet.
