Does anyone know if there was a soundtrack for Marathon ever released? I was listening to the Bungie Day podcast and during one of their "breaks", they played the song that is on the main menu of Marathon. It had a really cool beat and I was hoping to find it on CD somewhere.
Posted by: AceMyth Does anyone know if there was a soundtrack for Marathon ever released?
No, a soundtrack was never released. This was due to the fact that the first Marathon's musical score was MIDI only, while the only musical tracks found in Marathon 2: Durandal and Marathon: Infinity are the game's title themes. I'm sure some dedicated computer-minded person could extract the MIDI files from the original Marathon as well as the themes from the two sequels. That said, I do know that the group "Power of Seven" performed the title theme for both Marathon 2 and Marathon: Infinity. Try looking up the group and you might be able to locate the title music.
Posted by: AceMyth Just tried that but my computer can't open the music file since it isn't an actual sound file.
Aleph One SDL This is what they're talking about. A lot of us use the SDL version of the scenario files for portability and such, whatever. The music isn't bundled in a resource file like the original game. Download the Marathon 1 for Aleph One pack. The title screen music for any scenario is the AIFF (.aif) file, and the mp3's for Marathon 1 are in the folder called "Tracks" in the M1A1 folder. edit: Now with pics!
Posted by: xstar Are you talking about the main mentue of marathon Durandal? Either way, its the same method of getting the music. Go here . CLick download, then scenarios, for the Marathon 2 title song, pick durandal obviously. Extract and all that jazz, once you get the main folder, you will see a file named music.aiff (i think) thats the title song. As fot the marathon 1 soundtrack (Old School MIDI Rox!), do the same, download, extract, but then there is a folder named Music (once again I think0, in it are all the Mp3 files of the game music! Hope this helps.
Just tried that but my computer can't open the music file since it isn't an actual sound file.
Posted by: AceMyth
Posted by: The jeffers The game came out in 1994, so you'd be unlikely to get it on CD. It's not exactly chart music either. However, the Aleph One version of Marathon does contain the music files in mp3 format.
I didn't think they released one, but I was just hoping that with the success of the Halo soundtracks that Bungie would release one for Marathon, since it was a pretty popular series with a cult following way before hitting it big with Halo.
Well why don't you just download Aleph then?
