Who thinks D1 is better than D2

D1 had better destinations more adds and it felt like your really exploring a lost civilization, D2's destinations felt to big and empty with no creative look or feel to it, and it felt like I'm just here to do this and that, the lost sectors didn't help either. D1 had test weapon and Arms Day every Wednesday, D2 has nothing. D1 had better engrams that you turn in and earn rep toward the cryptarchy, D2's cryptarchy has no rep when you turn in engrams. D1 bounties don't expire, D2 bounties expire. D1 faction rep had numbers as ranks but didn't reset, D2 has faction rep that is named, and you have to reset after you reach legend. D1 didn't have any vaulted content like D2, and you can play the old version you can't with D2. D1 strikes you can play the old version of the strikes D2 doesn't have that. D2 has more cosmetics features than D1, but that's it D1 is and isn't better than D2 but it's vice versa, what D1 had made it good, what D2 has is the opposite. What did you like in D1 and didn't like, for me D1 was the pinnacle, D2 has no pinnacle, and it feels like I'm just there to throw money at it and really what ruined D2 for me is more attention to eververse and less loot in the destinations, and shady actes like throttling of XP, brightdust, vaulting content and a lot more and the only reason I'm still playing is because of the story and that is it the raids don't excite me at all everything seemed to me is handed to you in D2 edit, there was more heart and soul in D1, D2 has no heart or soul only greed to show.

The 2019 version of destiny 2 was one of the best games i had ever played . Destiny 2 now in 2024 is the worst game i have ever seen and prob will never play it again because of how badly the game changed . How is that ?? Did bungo take a chillpill and went crazy ? Did activision do all the work and can bungo not maintain the epicness that there was ?? Did they desperately wanna change the game to satisfy the streamers ??? What went wrong ?? Destiny 1 was great and all blablabla but it is old gameplay . I am not gonna play fifa 16 because then messi had better stats . 🤣🤣🤣 I wanna play on the latest console / pc / whatever and just have fun . It is not 2014 anymore where you played destiny 1 on your ps3 or xbox . Life goes on ..

      • IMO, D1 was a more compact and complete experience. There was less stuff, but it was higher quality. I preferred its darker tone. TTK and RoI were solid back-to-back DLCs. I can cope with content droughts much better than continuous content churn. I miss Combined Arms, PoE and SRL. However, I still love D2. The sandbox is miles ahead of D1. EDZ, Titan (RIP), Nessus and Dreaming City have been amazing locations. There have also been lots of QoL updates, like Loadouts, that make for a much better experience. I love both, but D1 is the better game for me.

More empty even.
D1 had test weapon and Arms Day every Wednesday, D2 has nothing.
Banshee sells guns with rotating rolls. He also lets you focus guns. It’s not timegated like it was in D1. If they copied the D1 system people would complain.
D1 had better engrams that you turn in and earn rep toward the cryptarchy, D2's cryptarchy has no rep when you turn in engrams.
Engrams are significantly more common in Destiny 2. They felt better to get because they were far harder and rarer to get.
D1 bounties don't expire, D2 bounties expire.
Bounties take a minute or two to do. This ain’t an issue. Bounties are just boring chores in both games.
D1 faction rep had numbers as ranks but didn't reset, D2 has faction rep that is named, and you have to reset after you reach legend.
So? You can track your total rank in D2 if you care about it. The resets are just a progressive reward system rather than providing the same random reward at each rank.
D1 didn't have any vaulted content like D2, and you can play the old version you can't with D2.
It was also less content and never required content vaulting. Once D2 came out, progression was lost when moving to the second game. D2 continues to add content rather than resetting with a new game.
D1 strikes you can play the old version of the strikes D2 doesn't have that.
Fair enough.
D2 has more cosmetics features than D1, but that's it
More in depth subclass, weapon and armor system, loads of Work improvements, greater variety in content, etc.
D1 is and isn't better than D2 but it's vice versa, what D1 had made it good, what D2 has is the opposite. Destinations did not have specific armor and weapons tied to them. Loot dropped less frequently as well. XP throttling existed years ago and is not in the game. Bright dust is the same as silver dust from D1. Yes, D2 does give more hand outs. That’s valid criticism.

While yea id be nice to do old Lake of Shadows and Arms Dealer the new ones are fundamentally different D2 has more abilities, weapons, raids, strikes, planets, vendors, activities, lore, exotics, perks, gameplay loops the only thing D1 did right was making exotics rare (The XP throttling issue was literally over 5 years ago)

              • The up vote isn't working. In D1 I was the main character. I spoke to other major characters. I became powerful. In D2 I'm the guy who gets coffee for Ikora. I stand in the corner while Zavala makes the decisions. I hide and run a lot because the enemy is almost always stronger. I'm my ghost's legs and dare not interrupt when it speaks.

Hot take: Arms Day was mid. I didn't care about any of the weapons. The designs were pretty formulaic, most of them weren't as cool as drops from the rest of the game, and only a few of them were even good enough to bother rolling for. On top of that, there were only three weapons available per week. Most weeks were easy skips for me.

              • Anyone who actually thinks this is going based of nostalgia and that’s it. Go back nd play d1 and see how long that “fun game” lasts you lol The only thing d1 has over d2 is a linear “story” that can be replayed and is actually kinda fun on a brand new character. Outside of that the game lacks on so much diversity and ways to play the game.

It’s really not comparable in any way. D2 is vastly superior and it’s not a logical argument to say D1 is the better game. D1 had some of the very first things added into a game. It redefined what a game was capable of. That makes it priceless but anyone comparing the two games and thinking D1 is better is simply being nostalgic. D2 has become the better game by a landslide but D1 will always hold a special place for everyone. I do understand the nostalgia that’s attached to first versions of games though. I’m more attached to the fist Diablo, Fallout and Resident Evil games etc than I am to the sequels. I love Diablo but it’s not comparable to Diablo 4.

                • I went back to D1 last year. Fun lasted not 1 hour. Yeah, I went back just that one time just so I can have fun doing infinite sun charges and throwing infinite hammers like the good ol days... Honestly, I also only went back because I wanted to see if I could go out of bounds in the Cosmodrome after finding those areas in D2...apparently, D2's maps has got a lot flaws and anyone can just walk out of the map. D1's map structure was pretty solid.

                    • D2 is objectively a better game in every way. However, this incarnation of D2 has lost its magic that it use to have and what D1 had.

                      • D1 had mystique, magic, potential, the unknown, it was an escape D2 we know bungies limitations (bcoz they tell us nonstop), which ruins the whole thing That being said D2 is a far superior game & if the D2 launched as D1 in 2014 we'd be in a very different place right now, looking to the future rather than can't wait for it to be over

                      • As much as I love D1, it’s just a nostalgia trip at this point. If they added stuff like SRL, Factions, Venus, it would be nice.
