For the third day in a row, hundreds of demonstrators took the streets of Santa Rosa, Calif. to protest the shooting death of a 13-year-old boy.
As The San Francisco Chronicle reports, Andy Lopez was walking to a friend's house on Tuesday to return a toy rifle. When police encountered him, they mistook the toy rifle for an AK-47 assault rifle.
"Authorities said the deputy, a 24-year veteran of the department, twice ordered Andy to put down the fake gun and then fired when the boy, still holding the toy, began to turn around," the Chronicle reports.
Lopez was hit seven times and died on the scene.
*sigh*
With so many idiots around no wonder our nation is going down the drain.

cracker or "white Hispanic" are both acceptable

1 ответOP, the kid was a Latino, not a cracker. Use the proper racial slur.

11 отв.Toy guns should simply not be allowed to be black. They should have to be bright unrealistic colours.

32 отв.Изменено (Spartan Ken 15): 10/26/2013 12:46:04 PMYou know, going off the idea it was a real gun, he did nothing "illegal". It is not illegal to open carry firearms in the united states, you have a 2nd amendment right that allows you to have the right to bear arms on a federal level. Just because you see someone have a gun does not mean they deserve to die, it is sad that someone gets gunned down for, what the cop thought was a real gun, for exercising their second amendment rights. As long as he wasn't aiming, shooting at, or provoking anyone, I see no need for the cops to respond hostility towards anyone carrying a firearm, especially since it is 100% legal. TL:DR: It is not illegal to open carry a firearm in most areas (outside of private property without owners consent, etc) of the United States and the issue is police are willing to kill first, ask question later for anyone having a gun despite them not doing anything illegal.

California? I'm sorry, but why does this not surprise me?

No matter who you blame, there are lessons to go around for everyone. To parents and children, know proper gun safety. To police officers, exercise some common sense. I understand the gun didn't have the orange tip on the barrel, so it looked real, but firing on the kid when he turned around...that seemed ill-advised.

Coppers should be less trigger happy.

3 отв.I'm pretty certain the fact still stands that they shot the boy immediately after telling him to drop the weapon. I'd think it unjust if some teacher told me to stop running outside and had me suspended before I could even slow down.

2 отв.>cracker Alternatively, you could not editorialize the title and we could have an actual discussion about it...

When I was a kid, if I was carrying my BB or pellet gun, I would keep them in a container until I was using them. That way, no one was needlessly scared. It's important to teach kids small safety measures like that.

4 отв.I'm still confused as to why he didn't comply with police instructions. If two cops, guns drawn and pointed in by direction, ordered me to do anything, it would be done. Did he have headphones on or something? Are there witnesses that saw the police warn him? I just can't get past him not complying to three requests.

6 отв.the airsoft "toy AK" was sawn off at the gas block, to remove the orange tip as well as several inches of barrel. they had no way of knowing if it were real or fake without a very close inspection. it is purely the fault of the parents and the dead teen.

3 отв.I was on the side of the cops with this but then I read something... Maybe the kid didn't understand. The gun was fake, so the boy heard "Put the gun down!" and probably thought someone ELSE had a gun in their hands, because as far as the boy knew: he was not holding a real gun. I don't blame the officer for what he did. But I think it's very wrong for us to assume the kid was stupid or acted the wrong way. In the heat of a moment like that, it's very easy to get confused and do the wrong thing. I think the biggest take-away from this is: realistic-looking toy weapons should NOT be allowed!

Screw the cops. Vigilantes for the win!
-
Cops were right to shoot first. The kid honestly could have been a cartel assassin or some shit like that.
-
That's ridiculous! Everything was stacked against the kid. I don't think he deserves a single once of sympathy from anyone.
-
A simple tragedy with nobody at fault. The cop was following training and the kid was probably just startled. Yet there ends up being a huge uproar about it. I blame the media for sensationalizing horrible tragedies in the name of ratings. Pretty soon they're going to make this a political topic.

11 отв.I' not surprised, I'm glad some people have the guts to stand up for what is right. That gun hardly looked real. Yet another reason never to visit 'murica, everybody is paranoid as hell, congratulations on your shitty country.
