Let's have a chat about being "Pro-life"
No no, I'm not just posting another abortion thread. Let's talk about consistency about being "pro-life"
Being pro-life means every person, fetus or otherwise, has an equal right to live out their life, correct?
Then how come so many pro-life people [namely conservatives] are in support of the death penalty? The death penalty serves no purpose but to end someone's life. That flies directly in the face of being pro-life.
Similarly, if you're pro-life, you should support some sort of universal healthcare system. Every person deserves access to proper healthcare and it shouldn't depend on whether or not they can afford it. Not doing so also contracts the values of being pro-life.
So, pro-lifers - either accept these other values into your worldview, or admit that you're just pro-fetus.

Basically, i don't get why they stop caring about the fetus the second it's born.

I am against abortion but I wouldn't support the death penalty either, even if I would feel strongly against the person. Which is why I am politically neutral and a non-voter. Both sides don't fit my views.

The same argument could be applied to the other side. Why are liberals in favor of abortion but against the death penalty? Why was the Casey Anthony trial such a big deal and all over liberal news networks when killing an infant can be compared to getting an abortion which many of these networks are in favor of? Just something to think about. By the way, I hate both ideologies.

I thought that it was common sense that pro-life means right to be born and had nothing to do with the death penalty. I personally am against the death penalty expect for the worst of criminals.

I'm pretty sure a fetus has no self awareness, no memories, no feelings and therefore can feel no pain. Also, have you heard of the amazing things stem cells can do for people who are actually living?

The long term problems the child may cause (such as the fact you simply don't have any money to support a child, nevermind yourself) are irrelevant. "Adoption exists for a reason, folks!" Eventually, there won't be people adopting as the birth rate increases, and then these forcibly-born children will simply die off. That doesn't matter, though. As long as they had a chance, right? What about when there's no more room for new people on Earth, but we're still birthing? What then? Eh, that last section is just me being a bit of a jerk. That's probably a long ways off, yet. Still, long-term effects should be thought of (not to such degree, of course. That would be absurd at this point in time). That's the main thing I don't see in these arguments is the longer-term effects. I'm not one who likes abortion at all, however I wouldn't consider myself a "pro-lifer" I just go with how I feel. I don't have a religion base, or a political base, either. I simply use what I feel is right, whether it goes for or against either side of the debate.

The term 'Pro-Life' being thrown around tends to mean pro-life in regards to an unborn child.

"pro-life" doesn't necessarily mean pro life. it's kinda weird. most pro lifers just believe that a fetus is a living being and does you have know right to kill it because it is an inconvenience. i'm not necessarily completely pro life but people should not be able to get an abortion off of a whim. there needs to be significant reasons such as under -blam!-. i'm kind of inbetween i guess. death penalty is different. it's not like you can just point to someone and say "he deserves the death penalty". it only occurs to those who have committed very serious crimes. and pro life definatly does not mean universal healthcare. a universal healthcare system means government run and i think it should be people who run it. people are the ones who make nations great and provide inovation and strive for sucess. the things we have today are not thanks to the government. as you can guess i'm a small govnerment kind of person. if you think they should be called pro fetus then it's just a problem of labeling.

I am Pro-Life primarily because of my Faith. I do not want anybody to die! I don't think that it is in our right to say who dies by what means just like it is not our right to say who goes to heaven or who goes to hell... That is all my Gods job.

Why work off the assumption that it's not the case already? I am pro-life, anti capital punishment and fully in favour of universal healthcare (and I have it; UK master race).

Once you have killed an innocent person, you have lost all of your rights as a citizen. However, it is my personal opinion that the death penalty should be executed (no pun intended) on the defendant if he or she is convicted of 3 1st or 2nd degree murders. 1 murder is not enough to justify killing someone. However, if a person goes as far as to kill 3 consecutive people and take away their life, they should not be allowed to live anymore. They have taken the lives of other innocent people, so why should they still have their right to live? How can you know that they will stop at 3? "The death penalty serves no purpose but to end someone's life." Well, why should you be allowed to live if you willfully committed an act of murder? A fetus has not done anything to deserve death, so it should be allowed to live. I want to hear what someone says to this. According to non-death penalty advocates, Osama bin Laden should not have been killed, even after he killed an estimated 10,000+ Americans (not including other countries mind you). According to you, Hitler did not deserve to be killed even after he massacred millions upon millions of Jews, homosexuals, disabled etc. You honestly believe that someone like him should not deserve the death penalty? That's freaking absurd.

I already have accepted those values. The death penalty should not be employed unless there is no other safe option. And I also happen to find anybody who does not favour universal healthcare is incredibly selfish.

It's funny really how hard he tries, but how little he understands. We believe people should not abort. That by no means implies we care about funding people's healthcare. Pro life isn't a black and white term.

8 отв.Because fetuses didn't choose to have terrible life decisions like killing another human being. As such, a fetus could be viewed as an innocent life worth saving (pro-life) and murderers and the like, viewed as guilty souls, who have no chance of redemption.

If criminals commit serious crimes like murder, especially repeat offenders, we have to recognize that they pose a serious threat to other people's lives. There is ample evidence that shows if these criminals are rehabilitation and then released, they often re-commit these serious crimes. The death penalty when applied properly is actually pro-life, because it can often save lives of other victims of a released violent criminal. 2. Its not inconsistent at all to be pro life and against universal health care. There is nothing wrong with a competitive, private sector health care system. The U.S. system is (was) a great example. Currently we need TORT reform for frivolous lawsuits which increase healthcare costs dramatically because doctors are afraid to be sued for anything. And of course there are regulations that inhibit competitiveness. More competition is key to lowering costs. Yes, the goal of healthcare is to save lives, but government run systems generally just increase the costs making it harder to pay for already expensive procedures and care. So I would say you are more pro life if you are against universal government run care because it drives up costs which ultimately will lead to less supply and lower quality products.

I'm "pro-life", and my country hasn't got the death penalty, and has got free healthcare. And I support both of them.
