I feel like they nerfed the crit knife drops. I haven't had one drop since level 28. Now I'm 50

I have been playing borderlands 4, I have over 10k hours in destiny and do love the game when its good but in my opinion it hasn't been good since edge of fate. I went from playing every day to logging on a few times a week and just staring at the portal wonder which punishment is the most tolerable. After 15 to 20 min i decide it's not worth it and log out.

As long as you don't expect to get too invested in the story. I finished it last night. Gameplay is amazing, but BL4's story is worse than BL3's. And BL3 already had a divisive story.

And BL3 already had a divisive story.
I missed the humor. Judging by the reviews I was alone in that, people liked the darker tone, but I missed the irreverence and the silliness. Borderlands has always been dark, but they put a sarcastic flair on it that really worked for me; BL4's self seriousness just didn't click. That's purely subjective, of course. The objective parts all worked reasonably well, good combat, good build crafting, okay loot, Sparrows. It's a fair game; not my favorite in the franchise, but solid.

Absolutely, I can't say as I have ever cared for any of the 1-3 games stories, but I did enjoy the standard toilet humor and cartoonish ultraviolence just for turning off the brain and ripping through the wasteland. The story trying to be serious is the worst part about the game in my opinion, they should lean more into the satire of it all but that appears to be the less popular opinion as you stated.

The main story was more serious but they still kept a lot of the humor in the side missions, which are all very flushed out and enjoyable. Personally, I thought the story of 2 was pretty good. Obviously Handsome Jack is iconic, but all the revelations with Angel and him toward the end were well told.

It's funny that you invoke ultraviolence, the game did sort of have A Clockwork Orange feel to it, even some of the side quests were a little uncomfortable. Did you do the mission where you help an unexploded missile commit the big S? Or the one where a sapient cow was being tortured by the Time Keepers? They were both so sentimental it kind of put me on edge. Borderlands has always been dark, but they were sardonic and sarcastic about it, they put a layer of humor on top of the story, it's what set Borderlands apart from other shooters in the genre. The story for BL4 sort of feels like a grainy gray paste. Oh well, at least Final Fantasy Tactics is out! It's not funny or anything, but it's not a grainy gray paste, either.
That missile mission was something else.
Maybe it's my old age, but I took that mission... not great. Like, I get it! I get what the team was going for! It was the missile's purpose in life to blow up, we were helping the missile self-actualize and fulfill that purpose. Totally makes sense! And yet I was damn uncomfortable with it the entire time - and this in a game about popping heads like balloons. It wasn't a bad mission or anything like that, the writing wasn't bad, the execution wasn't bad, but the subtext left me on edge. Could be I'm just reading too much into it, could be I'm getting sentimental, I dunno. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, taking a silly mission too seriously.
I was literally talking to my TV saying "You dont have to do this!"
So not just me, then! I thought I was a weirdo, but now that there are two of us I feel a bit better. Remember Loaderbots from BL2 and BL3? We could have slapped her in one of those, given her some Torgue guns and a grenade, and sent her on her merry way, blowing stuff up! She could have been friends with Claptrap and THEN asked us to help her blow up! Man, I've been playing these games too long...

Im 47, and I think as we age we can see and understand the value of life more. Plus the missile was programmed, so she didnt even have free will in where she ultimately ended up. Its natural for anyone with empathy to feel uneasy about it. Funny enough, seeing the value of life and time more is also why I've almost entirely put Destiny down. Our time is precious. Its worth more and theres less of it to be spending it grinding a really bad hamster wheel these days.

But thats bias since nothing in my mind will ever come close to Handsome Jack.

BL2 was definitely the high water mark. Now imagine BL3 if Pain & Terror were the main villains and Ava behaved like a real person.
-
Ava behaved like a real person.
Ava behaved like a real teenager, which is why anyone over 23 years old found her annoying.

Agreed, though I'm only a few days into BL4 and have to admit I really like the improved movement and gun aspects. BL2 was my favorite before this one--jury's still out IMHO. I'm not one who enjoyed the silliness, just the infinite gun diversity, big weird worlds, goofy abilities, and fun battles. Except that I really appreciated Handsome Jack, who seemed both well written and well performed--he was definitely a highlight. But that's just me.

It is almost making me forget about how much I miss Destiny's gunplay when Im not playing it.

Don't get me wrong, BL2's story will always be peak of the franchise. For BL3's, I at least found Troy to be an interesting character, and then they killed him off way earlier than they should have. It was obvious Tyreen was the main antagonist, but she wasn't interesting at all.
