But they aren’t readable in combat lol because of ornaments, because people are allowed to switch on a whim, game doesn’t render at a distance like that etc. If you’re that focused on a players armor in PVP and not your reticle you’re going to get farmed. And trials shows them at the intro. The times a player has run or jumped by me anywhere in this game in 5k+ hours and I thought “ oh they have X exotic on “ I can count on one hand. Everyone who wants to know hits “ inspect character “. Watch any good pvpers stream they do it pre match and then anytime something killed them that caught them off guard. But it’s always “ inspect “ not well let’s just fire up the next round and I’ll scope them out real hard when I see them again to figure it out.
I get that “ seeing armor “ is a thing. But it needs to die with the reality that it rarely ever happens, isnt as clear when it does and is suboptimal to just inspecting and leaving no questions.

Each league of legends champion has 5+ plus and I can recognise each of their silhouettes in each of them. I’m sorry, but the existence of ornaments doesn’t change readability being a design goal for Bungie. Wether you see the merit or not.

But it does lol league is a different game. It’s a scroller. You cannot tell me Bungies design goal is to have exotic armor be visually identifiable in FP as a combat strategy. They actively release ornaments that minimize its outlandishness. Shaders do as well. Many pieces aren’t more striking in appearance than legendary armor. The movement speed in this game via jumping, sparrows etc. Go touch down in any pvp match and tell me you can see what the other player is wearing when they spawn in on the opposite side of the map. You can’t even see their character lol. If you want to know, that’s what pre match inspection is for. If you waited to see them even with Superman eyes their gear would still surprise you at the initial engagement. Which could mean you lose to it for lack of knowledge (not comp at all). Hell drop into the tower and tell me what the players standing at the post, rahool and Zavala are wearing after you spawn in. It’s not that easy to see and it not distinguishable from any meaningful distance even while standing still. In PVE you launch from orbit to Locked activities without even have characters on the ground. It’s what inspection is for.

I’m not telling you that, Bungie is. I’m aware league and destiny are different games. I was referring to aspects of the design, which can be shared across different games and different genres.

Bungie isn’t saying it though. They just aren’t adding a feature the OP is talking about. It’s likely a combination of they can’t be bothered to do the work coupled with a fake sense of exotic armors role in the game. The reality and purpose of my comments is very little meaningful information would be lost by adding exotic transmog as the game actually plays. No true competitive edge would be gained or lost and the concerns are only relevant to PVP in the first place. The inspect feature is and would continue to be the defacto tool for gathering other players gear info with or without exotic transmog. It would truly set the fashion game free.
