Luke Smith said that the model of following 4 seasons per year each with its own exclusive content was a huge burden on the dev team and was unsustainable. It's worth bearing in mind that despite this huge effort, not everything in Year 2 was, that good. (Season of the Drifter comes to mind.)
The dev team being strained is completely understandable and I thought especially as not all the content was that amazing anyway, a change in the 4 season model would be good.
So to see this year have the seemingly exact same model (with the exception of the fact that content actually goes away too), is surprising. And with a much reduced amount of manpower after bungies split, it's no surprise that these seasons aren't that great.
I personally thought bungie would halt the constant flow of content and take some more time to make a few great expansions instead of many average ones. Thoughts on this?

14 отв.I prefer this type of content drops. And i prefer it going away later too . Xbox running out of space with D2's 150+GB space requirement.

Thoughts on this?
All of this drivel from Luke Smith only had 2 purposes: 1) Rewrite the history of the game for his own ego, and 2) Exaggerate the burden on the team to create compassion for the devs before a lackluster DLC and seasons would be upon players. There wasn't an honest word in this director's weight cut bs so don't make it bigger than he is. Bungie won't go back to a regular DLC model as seasons are a great way for them to make even more money with less effort. Destiny 2 is operated by a team that can't be bigger than 20-30 people at this point, so they're investing the lowest amount of resources possible to still pretend this is a "Live Service Game" while still getting their sweet continuous revenue stream. This fake free2play model to squeeze more money out of Eververse is just the cherry on the cake. So no, Bungie will most likely never go back to their old model when there's more money to be made this way. Their developers are of no concern to them, that's just PR feelgood blurb.

The seasonal temporary content to replace actual dlc is wrong, yea I get releasing dlc every 3 month was taxing, given their 10yr old engine is too slow to create content with. However, I think players would have been more forgiving if there was only 2 dlc drops annually, have the live team continue working on releasing puzzle/ community events every so often. The problem now is seasonal content is bare, there's no lasting legacy content such as strikes, heroic stories or raids for players to enjoy. Using time gated events to progress the journey is wrong and is going to just push more players away, but also put off players from returning because they have missed out and don't have the chance to play catch up.

FOMO is trash. Bungie is utter trash atm. Luke Smith is a jiggly jiggly joke of a man.

Am I the only one around here that equates me being bored with destiny, to me playing destiny for the past 5 years? I'll agree that Destiny is in a different place than it has been, but the blame shifts so sporadically around here that it's hard to take anyone serious.

2 отв.Yea agree, im not a fan of the seasonal content and would much prefer a Forsaken/Dreaming city style dlc once a year plus occasional events... Quality over quantity 😎👍 I have no problem with content droughts either... Id much rather finish quality content and play other games(which im gonna do anyway) and be hungry for more, than get burnt out and sick of the constant stream of mediocre content we have now and play other games and not really have the desire to play...

1 ответAll Bungie did was build a model to justify season passes and more Eververse transactions. It's ok for them to crunch that constant stream of retail items. It's not ok for them to crunch a 20-30$ expansion every 3 to 4 months that doesn't earn as much EV revenue. I didn't think anyone actually believed Bungies reasonings.

2 отв.It's easier to push storefront shit this way. Minimal actual content while hiking up the storefront offerings. It's all about the dollar for them now. They don't actually care about the playerbase or the game, as long as people are buying silver, bungle is happy. Which in turn, makes the majority of us very unhappy.
-
3 отв.Their model is to continue to bank on people with no self-control spending money on silver while they churn out half-assed content throughout the year as inexpensively as possible. Before I get the replies, I can afford to buy silver I promise. But I'm not an idiot.

2 отв.Bungie understands the model just fine. It is called "Minimized Effort for Maximized Profit". I'll was actually cutting Bungie some slack this year because of the split. However I fear that, seeing the high profitability of this current ME/MP model, Bungie will take the easy way out and just become what they say they despised...... ACTIVI$ION.

I agree to a certain point that the current model is not the greatest. Now I will highlight that I think destiny is coming to a tough point now cause it’s lifespan is almost done but not quite there. It’s clear Bungie is working on the next big thing of destiny...but without the help of Activision. With new console systems coming out I’m sure they are going to want to release the new game then...but not right away. So I would think earliest we could see destiny 3 or whatever it could be will be Fall 2021. So I would tell anyone expecting something great to come in the remaining time of destiny that it’s not coming. A secret zero hour quest or unexpected exotic addition is most likely not in the cards. I generally liked season of the dawn...it brought some new strong weapons in legendary and exotic. Both symmetry and devils ruin were fun exotic additions. But I agree that we had two exotic quests that were quite easy. As much as getting thorn sucked and completing the chasm of screams...there was a sense of accomplishment. I agree that the pursuit of god rolls is diminished due to the fact that it does not matter as the difficulty level has decreased. Now we have activities that you always complete and get similar loot as opposed to something like the reckoning which had great loot...but you needed a successful run which still is challenging today even with the power increase. I am disappointed to find out that crimson days is just bringing back the same bow from last year. The pursuit of sparrows seems pointless to me as most sparrows are the same at 160. For now I will continue to play destiny 2 but could see myself stepping away as the game slogs along until the next addition. I am curious to see what changes come to PvP with next season supposedly being all PvP.

Funny thing is, you say drifter season wasnt good, and that was the only season Bungie made
