The real question is why can’t Bungie introduce matchmaking for raids?
English

As long as they include a mode that teaches raid mechanics then yes
-
Yes yes yes! Now you're just making sense which means it'll never happen. Why not make a learners raid with no pinnacle or exotic drops at the end maybe just a couple shaders, glimmer, and a prime engram if that. Nothing to lose. No wipes, unlimited revives enabled just so others can learn the raid without the toxicity.

You can get an overhead view, as the game tells you what to do you can watch it happen beneath you as holographic guardians play through an instance. Then when your comfortable you can spawn below and take the place of one of the holographic guardians and video queue’s tell you where to stand, shoot and move

I almost wish Bungie would introduce Matchmaking for raids for a couple weeks just so people finally realize how much of a bad idea it is. What makes you think 6 randoms without coordinated team composition, weapon coordination, any communication, and no fireteam leader will get any part of any raid encounter completed?
-
While I do agree to an extent with what your saying, life itself is controlled chaos so who's to say that it couldn't work. Just need a clear leader and for me that itself should at least lay the foundation for a raid team familiar or not.
Just need a clear leader
Matchmaking does not have a clear leader... The most experienced raider could go into matchmaking with the expectation of helping lead 5 other people, but... - No one would have a mic - The first player would constantly start the encounter before anyone was ready and then kill themself just for the lolz - The second player would be AFK for the first 15 minutes, causing the third and fourth players to leave - The fifth player would have a double primary PVP loadout on because they couldn't be bothered to switch for a raid, then go around tbagging everyone who dies because why not. - The AFK player would finally come back and put their staticy mic on just to let you know they know everything about the raid from watching a video then constantly die. - Two new people would join the team with mics speaking in Russian. Do I need to continue?

If you’re wondering how it could work, well - Bungie could simply implement a matchmaking toggle for raids as follows: * Current (default; solo or w/fireteam) * Heroic (920 light, 0-1 clears) * Legendary (950 light, 2-4 clears) * Master (960+ light, 5+ clears) I guessed at the light levels, but this is just an example.

I'm focusing on what likely would happen because that's how matchmaking works. Take the Sundial for example, how often do members of the team have any level of communication with each other? The answer is never. Everyone is doing their own thing, which is okay for activities like the Sundial because there is no failure mechanic, but this is terrible for raids or high level activities. Let me humor you for a moment and go with your system. You say Heroic would essentially be the point of entry having no requirements (I'm not considering 920 light as a requirement). You would end up with the group of players that would most often use Matchmaking, people with low skill that have no idea what to do. These people for the most part would not use a mic for communication and not listen to any direction, and even if they did, it would not be for the length of time required to learn the mechanics. This Heroic mode is the essence of why Matchmaking raids is a bad idea. Now let's say you go with Master, needing 5+ clears and 960 light. You would have people that at a bare minimum have a base understanding of the raid and are not underleveled, which could lead to a viable team, but with no leader or coordination of roles, this could easily lead to situations with no clear leader or multiple 'alpha' characters that try to be the leader. It also does not take into account the skill level of players, some people don't mind spending 4+ hours in a raid while some want to get them done in 30 minutes. Some people want to do challenge, some don't. Many teams have different fundamental changes in strategy that would cause confusion. It's still a recipe for disaster. Every time Matchmaking gets brought up for raids, I see nothing but failure unless the team of 6 come together with a similar set of expectations (time commitment, weapon loadout, etc), and the way to accomplish this is with LFG, not Matchmaking.

yeah i cant wait to be randomly paired up with Mic-less idiots and people who dont speak english, then on top of that people who will not listen and you cannot kick out, not to mention people would go in and intentionally throw for fun.
-
I agree with you 100%. But raids having matchmaking doesn't mean you encounter these people.. You can still do what you do now, just find people before going into a raid..
-
^this Hell randoms struggle with Nightfall matchmaking
-
If you want to have a good laugh, lower your light level below 900 and go into a 920 Nightfall. (you can raise your light level after you find a team) I did this once and watched as both of my teammates used their entire heavy and supers on an Overload Minotaur without even putting a dent in it. I sat back and let them both die then killed it with ease.
They....they did....its called guided gam- :L XD sorry i couldn't finish
Just like waiting for a guided game..... 👍

Yeah, perfect for people who like to sit in traffic, enjoy waiting in the longest line at the grocery store or enjoy being constipated.

You will learn patience!!
-
Yeah, except you just sit in mentor ‘limbo’ indefinitely (except when the network finally times you out and kicks you to orbit, that is).
-
It... it was a joke bud....
-
Matchmaking would almost never be used by anyone that KWTD. it would just be a cesspool of beginners.
-
Apparently this is the same problem now, so I’m not sure how lacking an in-game matchmaking tool benefits anyone.

you hold too much faith in people being reasonable. yeah i cant wait to be randomly paired up with Mic-less idiots, People under equipped, People who are using a gun/bow or something that isnt meta and people who dont speak english, then on top of that people who will not listen and you cannot kick out, not to mention people would go in and intentionally throw for fun.
