Hey Bungie!
I love this game and I play it every day. As always, I offer special kudos to your Sound Design team, the audio content is always amazing.
I'm writing today because I didn't really enjoy the first week of Iron Banner Season 9.
First of all, contrary to all the amazing additions to the game, Iron Banner still gives out the same selection of weapons and armor that it has for past seasons - there is nothing new. In Seasons 8 and 9, there have been dozens of new weapons and armor sets introduced to the game... so why not make some new stuff specific to Iron Banner?
Second, this rocket launcher quest step. I don't mind difficult objectives or trying new gear styles but, in my opinion, the rocket launcher quest step has a negative effect on the play style intended for Iron Banner. With this quest active, hardly anyone plays the objective. People end up going rogue and hanging out around the heavy ammo... they don't seem to fight to win the match, they only fight to finish this quest step.
Third, I'm kind of perturbed that Iron Banner token redemption is tied to finishing the quest.
Again, I love this game and appreciate all the hard work that goes into it. But unlike the rest of the in-game activities, playlists, and quests, this season's Iron Banner hasn't been as fun for me. I almost wish this rocket launcher quest step could be its own quest in one of the other Crucible playlists; maybe with more rocket launcher strikes required for completion.
That being said, I thank you again for the overall awesome game. Keep up the good work!
Happy New Year to ALL!
PS: To folks who might reply 'git gud' or some-such nonsense: during this past week's Iron Banner I fared pretty well. I finished near, or at, the top of team list (most of the time) and with random teams, I saw plenty of wins. I finished the IB quest on two of my three characters, generated hundreds of IB tokens and other resources, and I reset my Valor rank multiple times. I'm not here to 'whine' because something was difficult. I'm here to give feedback about the way an in-game activity affected the gameplay for me, which is exactly why this forum exists. Thanks.

Thanks for this articulate critique. Perhaps the appropriate tweak is that the weapon kill steps progress is only counted if your team wins?

Side note: I apologize to everyone for the length of my posts. I don't often have anything to post in forums like this but on the few occasions I have something to say, I try to be thorough with my thoughts. Thanks again.

Having the kills only count if your team wins seems like a potential solution, and may motivate folks to play the objective more. If this were the case, I would also increase the number of RL kills needed and have the rocket launcher kills be counted 'as a team' (which would also make it less frustrating). Or have losses only count half of your RL kills or something like that. If this were a separate Iron Banner or Crucible quest, for a new exotic or legendary Rocket Launcher, it could be an elective activity instead of being mandatory in order to enjoy our IB token winnings. That might not stop people from camping the heavy but it might decrease the number of Guardians doing so. If IB Tokens could be turned in without finishing the quest, that also might help make it all feel a little more rewarding. Then people could elect to not engage the quest at all, and simply enjoy Iron Banner. I actually tend to enjoy Iron Banner over most other Crucible playlists. Or maybe it would be more fun, but remain challenging, if people were allowed to turn in a certain amount of IB Tokens after each quest step? It is worth saying that getting a specified amount of Rocket Launcher kills in Crucible is actually an interesting challenge, in and of itself... but I think it frustrates folks in Iron Banner because, instead of being a fun secondary objective, it appears to undermine the primary objective. Again, I don't know a good fix. know what I was feeling while I was playing. I was regularly irritated because folks weren't working as hard to capture zones, or to win matches. The shotgun and rocket launcher steps were both very hard for me but I always accept that the game should have a variety of difficulty levels within activities. All games are meant to be challenging. But the difficulty didn't bother me nearly as much as the overall situation, and how it affected team gameplay. Thanks for your response!
