For those who haven’t yet read the newest lore book The Chronicon, I suggest giving that a read over. In summation, this new book is the writings of Loyalist Scribes recounting the time Calus spend on his Leviathan during his exile as well as several “forthcoming” chapters, in which these scribes write down events predicted by Emperor Calus focused around the actions of the Shadow of Earth.
If you couldn’t guess, the Shadow cast by Earth is the Guardian, Young Wolf, Chosen by the Light, Slayer of Kings and Queens alike. As many predicted before, the Guardian would be accepting the Emperor’s offer to become their right hand and primary enforcer. As many did not predict, this means slaughtering a majority of the individuals most closest to them. Variks, Mara Sov, Rasputin, Failsafe, Holliday, the Drifter, an unkilled Toland, a defenseless Osiris, Zavala, Ikora and even a resurrected Cayde 7. They’re all on the chopping block for the Shadow of Shadows. Obviously, all of this is a future that Calus finds most ideal for his plans, and as such has yet to happen and has no guarantee to even take place. As the Vex, the War Cult, Osiris, and likely even Skolas will tell you, the future isn’t set in stone. In fact, its quite malleable. While Calus is intimately familiar with the shape of this future, it is but one of countless in the ever branching present.
But, just because this future isn’t guaranteed to happen, doesn’t mean it isn’t a legitimate outcome to the current timeline. All the events, while heavily presumed, are feasible to happen given the right circumstances. And while the death of Mara Sov, as well as the eradication of the Rasputin AI and his Futurescape all sound appealing to me, unfortunately, those must remain fantasy. The Guardian’s betrayal is too heavy a price for personal satisfaction. The Vanguard and all proxy must stand. Especially given the smug, entitled attitude the Shadow of Earth has adopted. The way the behaved at the negotiations between Vanguard and Cabal was appalling and all too reminiscent of a certain Queen I know of. Ranting and raging as if they’ve never received bountiful thanks and compensation for their deeds. What good is a Broken Curse to a dead people? You think you’re owed a gratitude for saving humanity from one Maw just to toss them to another? A thousand Ghauls are preferable to the Heralds to the End of All Things.
The question then falls to how this future is to be avoided. Obviously, there are more than a few Guardians clambering to become a Shadow of Calus, so if current events keep their course, it seems almost unavoidable with the Emperor having so many of the Lightbearers enthralled with his sweet nothings of cosmic annihilation. But surely there must be a way to avoid this outcome, even if the Lightbearers won’t do anything. And I think there is. Much to my dismay, however, I believe that the last hope to snap the Guardians out of their trance lies with Queen Mara Sov.
In the forthcoming chapters of the Chronicon, Mara is referred to as a “Shipbreaker”, implying that she was somewhat successful in her battle against the Pyramid Ships and has, at least, destroyed one of their vessels if not more. I know some might be questioning how Mara could challenge Calus when she is to be killed by the Shadow of Earth after not becoming a Shadow herself. Well, we know from a few contradictive actions made by certain individuals in these forthcoming chapters that these predictions are not 100% accurate.
A shining example of this is how Petra takes up the title of Shadow of the Awoken after Mara is killed, then proceeds to kill any Awoken still loyal to the Queen. Anyone who’s talked to Petra for more than 5 minutes will know that’s she’d hunt the Shadow of Earth down to the coldest corner of the universe and mount their Ghost on her Galliot is they killed Mara. Still, the question remains of how Mara could circumvent the Emperor’s plans. Its simple. There’s an unforeseen factor in Calus’s predictions, something he failed to sick his Shadow of Shadows on. And something Mara just so happens to be allied with. You know them, you’re lukewarm on them, the enormous celestial masses of dark matter that reside in the planets of Sol, none other than the Nine themselves.
The Nine aren’t mentioned anywhere in the Chronicon, and its still unclear whether or not Calus is even aware of their existence at all. It would reason that if he did know of the Nine, that he would make an attempt to kill them as well. After all, Calus aspires to be the last living thing alive, to the point that he’d have his Shadows undo Toland’s death to kill him properly. The Nine’s ability to exist off the consciousness of other living beings would likely anger the Emperor a fair deal, since he could never truly be the last living thing alive. And yet, the Nine are never dealt with in the Chronicon. They aren’t even brought up in the Season of Opulence at all. We know from the Lore Book Dust that the Nine have been reaching out to the Leviathan, although its unclear if contact was being made with Calus or if they were observing him. Their existence hinges on the prolonged survival of life in Sol, so one could expect they’d be none to happy the plans he’s made.
We know that only three individuals have been able to transcend the Nine’s design. The Hourglass, the Blade and the Rogue. Its possible Calus was one of those to transcend, although from their descriptions, probably not. Which means the Nine may be the only things standing between Sol and it’s destruction at the hands of it’s former champion. And since the Queen hasn’t been known to take other’s claiming their Royalty in her domain, I imagine she has a few words to share with the Cabal Emperor. After all, what was the last thing she told the Guardian before her departure? Bow to no one. And by the way things are looking, I see nothing but bent knees in the future.
Do not be fooled, Lightbearer. The blissful end that Calus offers is but an illusion. A submission to all that is not Light. He’s sweetening his forward while arming his dreg. Armed with daggers aimed at all that you have protected up until now. If the Shadow of Shadows is to come about, then the Traveler was wrong to resurrect it’s Chosen one. If the predictions in the Chronicon are to be taken with sincerity, then you have a choice to make. Reject the Emperor’s Dogma, and rend his soul to dust against the cold hull of his Leviathan, or in the words of a disgruntled Fallen, kill all your friends and then yourself.

Why don’t I just kill everything and become the new emperor Calus? Fu ck Mara and fu ck that stupid purple -blam!- of hers, goddamn -blam!-. I do all the damn dirty work of every living thing in this solar system and my reward is two blues and a token!?! Nah son it’s about to go down once the Dorrito ships come in, everybody gonna die except for me and my harem of sexy alien -blam!-, I’m going to turn the Leviathan into one huge Nightclub and scour the Universe for the finest alcohols and the best pus sy this side of the milky way

All the Chronicon is at least is wishful thinking and at best fan fiction by Calus. Does he want the Guardian to be his Shadow of Earth, sure, ultimately will he lose any sleep if he isn't? No, not in the least.
-
I’m okay with killing all the above. If given the chance I’d kill the entirety of the vanguard and our allies. Then I’d choose a different option with a different character. Meta gaming is fun.

6 отв.“A submission to all that is not Light”. Is...is that so bad? We can’t use Light for the fight against the Darkness. We simply can’t. So..why not look for other solutions?

3 отв.Calus or no, I will find a way to put a bullet in Mara Sov’s head. Other than that, I have no intentions of killing any potential allies.

I will point this out: we wouldn't have gone to Ikora in the beginning if we were gonna work for Calus.
-
I'll settle for Reckoner (once I get it). Calus wants a show, I'll give him a show...
Calus is sounding more and more like Joker from The Dark Knight. He sees everything and everyone as tools for his own amusement
Изменено (PhNx Hellfire): 6/6/2019 3:50:58 AMYou're somewhat on the money and somewhat not on it. Calus is a prediction engine due to Psionic influence showing they can predict the future. As for the Shadow designation? It's the equivalent if our guardian chooses the wrong path and becomes corrupted. Quite possible given our predicament to not think out our actions. With all the puzzle pieces on the table, the question is still the same: What do you consider to be the line? Because as all demons and other entities of lore outside Destiny show are the corruption is both yourself and others. The influence, the draw/pull, and the infestation. My guardian's choices have always been loyal to earth and that means the Vanguard to defend it. However, that fate falls is where you will find similar minds to that. Defend what you can, but remember you can die but one more death when your light is gone. WE must protect that. If you choose the Drifter side? Good luck out there when it catches up to you. It caught up to the Traveler which seemingly "appeared" out of the blue on a new planet. Go see what you can before your time is up. Other than that, every guardian is now seeing the fruits of their labor and the predictions next will be, "trust me. Grow fat from Strength" which is simply another phrase for, "get older and grow fat so I can reap what you sow" or perhaps you think the Fallen is a good ally? Good luck when it suits them to run or betray to align with greater powers that be. Vex? Really. Good luck. Awoken? The turntable question of who will they truly support? Given their queen? Probably both. Which means the last piece of the puzzle will be your choice. You see loss allllllllll around probably right now. I see a clear and decisive path to my enemy front lines and he will not be yelling with his voice, nor slinging a gun around, or shaping void energy in my palms... it will be the crack of a hit from a flaming knee, smoke, and arc ball...

Nope I'll pass on the shadow title I ain't killing my Amanda

1 ответИзменено (Spooky_Ari): 6/6/2019 12:17:13 AMCalus is aware of the Nine. I am Alive lore tab: "Now I've seen everything. We were all so wrong. All of this—the machines, the Eliksni, the worms, the Light, the Nine. All of it meaningless. This galaxy is tumbling toward a singular conclusion and there is nothing—no one—that can stop it. How could I have missed this? It's the small moments, the simple pleasures that matter. They're all I can think about now. Food and drink aren't mere sustenance. They're a reminder that I am alive. This Leviathan. This prison ship. I will remake it, as I have been remade. No longer will it represent a mythical beast from the dreams of worms. It will serve as an icon for my newfound gluttony." ... The Hourglass is likely Savathun, and the Blade is Quria or maybe it's vice versa. Orin says that line in conjunction with the Drifter, then in the next invitation says two women untrusted, forever at arm's length meaning at a distance. Unreachable. Then goes on to talk about Drifter again, a man untrustworthy and afraid. Within that context we can assume the Hourglass and Blade are both women. Both of which have transended and it's looking like Savvy & Quria.

3 отв.Honestly I don't think anything in this book will happen, just a single-minded prediction of the ideal future for a chubby emperor

7 отв.Изменено (GiantSlayer): 6/5/2019 9:28:25 PMMy allegiance is to the Vanguard, to THE CONSENSUS! Wonder if Cayde-7 will ever be a thing? And Rasputin can handle himself. He could nuke the leviathan from orbit if he so wished

14 отв.So just my thoughts I look at these lore books differently. My thinking is the psions looked into the future and saw all these events. I think it would be cool if these events do transpire but not for the reasons they wrote. They wrote them with a bias to favor calus but it may not be the truth. May be we do kill mara but for a totally different reason. The guardian is paracausal, Osiris can’t even see us in the future. So I’m thinking the psion sees the main plot points and just add lib how it got there with pro-calus propaganda.

Even without the Nine being a factor I highly doubt we'd do any of the shit his scribes have written down. It's all hopeful wishes. Betray the City and the Light to become a Herald of the very thing we're fighting against? Petra joining the very person who killed Mara? Mara dying that easily in the first place? Mithrax exterminating his race? Not happening, Calus. Nice try, but no dice.

3 отв.Изменено (silencersix): 6/5/2019 9:42:13 PMI never wanted to be a shadow. If it lets us choose, I’ll chose to defend the traveler and humanity, not run away. Besides, I wouldn’t be able to kill Cayde or ghost. I have to fulfill my duty as a guardian.

1 ответ<Reminder that if Rasputin were to come under fire when the Darkness arrives, and I have a choice to save myself or save Rasputin, I'm leaving Mars to be burned at the stake. Don't even give me a moral decision, just a choice between even a few humans or a nearly useless AI.>
