Sorry you got hosed, but did you not see the info from bungie telling everyone that they were broken?
On a side note, I'm surprised that you actually want to get the Eververse items for the revelry. The armor isn't too bad, but the only other thing even remotely "cool" is the Perfect Swing emote.

I did see that it was broken, but it's the last day and I was still missing like 8-10 things, including an armor piece, so I figured I had to at least get one or two things I needed in 10 engrams, or AT LEAST like an exotic I could dismantle for bright dust and buy some of the things I was missing with dust. I just didn't expect to get 10 duplicate legendary sparrows and ghost shells

the eververse items are better looking than the ones you can earn in game - which in of itself is stupid. that said, i refuse to purchase silver since in Y1 of D2 they left all of the eververse gear behind going into year 2 because its unmoddable. Also, Y2 eververse gear in general tends to have crappier rolls - probably to keep the pay-to-win factor at bay..
