Thoughts of a Hunter

To start things off, this isn't a personal crusade. This isn't a biased opinion or uneducated rant. This is a genuine thread about how I feel about the current state of hunters in the meta, and in the game as a whole. So where do we begin? At its most basic state, we have the three classes. Comparably, warlocks are akin to mages, titans to warriors, hunters to rogues. This is where the thought started. This was the basic building block for the three classes in Destiny, but what is the role of each of the classes? Bungie has desperately tried to stray from this, but as a general rule: mages are dps, warriors are tanks, rogues are assassins. Bungie has gone a separate route entirely, trying to give all three classes the ability to perform any of those roles. Put bluntly, that has made things very awkward. Prior to receiving our third subclass, hunters had a very unique place in the game. Respectively, they still do. They are the only class that utilizes stealth (and should remain that way), but no other class had a super that dealt constant damage as arc blade did. In its current state, arc blade is only useful in crucible, and doesn't generate enough orbs or deal enough damage to be viable in pve. Arc blade and golden gun made hunters viable year one, especially in crucible. Many even go as far as saying that hunters had their time in the spotlight, now it's time for the other classes to shine. This is where I get frustrated. As the rogue of the trio, my goal is very clear: -Don't be seen -Eliminate high priority targets -Be f-ing frabjous as all hell What's the point of playing a hunter when the other two classes can do a better job at what I do? Bungie completely missed an opportunity here. If my frustration came from playstyle, I would argue that hunters don't spend enough time in stealth or don't behave any differently than warlocks or titans outside of stealth. I'm talking about how you get the kill. A true rogue fights dirty. Observes their enemy, looks for weak spots, marks targets for additional damage, and hits hard while confining their damage to single targets. Why don't hunters mark targets for additional damage or spend more time flanking? "What about shadow shot?" What about it? Its function is to lock down enemies. The bonus damage is a side effect. Perhaps have a perk that lowers the cooldown and increases all damage taken by affected targets, while removing the tether? Just an idea. Why doesn't smoke disorient enemies like it should and cause them to become vulnerable? Why does blink strike give you virtually no bonus to your melees range or damage? These are all things that could define hunters and make them stand out. The problem? They don't. They leave you feeling worn out and tired. I can say from experience, warlocks and titans get a walk in the park where hunters have to think and use everything to their advantage. I'm not being facetious or over exaggerating here. The life of a hunter is a hard one, and I wouldn't change it, but that isn't the problem. The problem is that it isn't near as rewarding as it should be. It's lackluster and mediocre at best. I don't feel like an actual rogue. I feel half-arsed and sad. I'm not calling warlocks and titans overpowered (as much as I want to). I'm saying that as a rogue-based character, I should be able to fight the way a rogue does. I just end up using my weapons because those are more effective. That shouldn't be the case.
