It was a hard decision for me to decide whether it was better to move on from the idea of Destiny 3, or to do what I could to hope for it. But before too long, it got to a point where having a Destiny 3 -- especially one that is actually well-made and addresses player concerns -- sounded massively unlikely.
1) Sony is Not Listening
First of all, Sony has made it clear to us that they don't think Destiny is worth it. We can't change the mind of some entertainment megacorp, especially considering how confident they feel about their incorrect decision to shut down the franchise. If we "make our voices heard", our plea will always be for them to take a financial risk, which is something a rich group of people generally becomes less and less willing to do.
2) The Devs are Scattered
Not only that, they were so confident in their decision that they scattered the Destiny team several different ways. All the original big-names are gone, having been fired one at a time over the course of a couple years after the release of Final Shape. Then, some of the most respected developers, who produced Forsaken, were taken over to develop Marathon. Finally, everyone else at the end was fired in droves.
The true lifeblood of a studio is the individual minds and talents behind a vision.... and all of those have gone their separate ways. Anything that might be branded a Destiny 3 one day, if ever, may not even feel like a Destiny game. This kind of thing has happened before in the industry. If any of you know Metroid, this is exactly what happened to Metroid Prime 4 (among other things of course).
3) Would Player Concerns be Fairly Addressed?
Lastly, Destiny has had long-standing troubles that were ultimately left unresolved, sometimes for the entirety of Destiny 2. There is every reason to believe the following concerns (or more) would continue to live on in a future installment:
- Eververse taking all the good armor designs, and squeezing out money in every possible way.
- Loot identity and power creep not being regulated because the newest gear would always be the strongest, to ensure that studio revenue targets are met.
- Loot scarcity remaining non-existent (e.g., so many easy-access exotics out there) to support a more robust hamster-wheel model, also for studio revenue targets.
All of these problems sound like they have obvious solutions.... but were they ever solved in the many years -- often many good, successful years -- they had available to them? For some reason beyond us, these things were never solved, and only got worse with time in the grand scheme of things.
As much as I want Destiny to be what it really deserves, I will always lack the confidence that some team out there can make it happen. So I'm moving on, and it's not been too bad really. I'll just come back to Destiny for some nostalgia when the time is right, and that will be good enough for me.

There won’t be a Destiny 3. Maybe, just maybe then relaunch this game into something resembling a sequel or new content but there won’t be a Destiny 3.

The future is definitely not bright despite what some will have you believe! The costs and risk associated with creating a D3 probably just don’t add up for Sony anymore, specially after marathon failed so spectacularly!

1) Sony is Not Listening
Sony said pretty clearly, they do not have any plans to make a Destiny 3. I think there is some confusion about who is not listening. Also Bungie's 211K square foot facility is open for Sublease now.

3 RepliesSony listened than the chose to abandon destiny based on its performance. 2 plus years of missed financial marks and a falling player count as well as running costs Sony was absolutely right to abandon destiny.
