Destiny Using Halo Engine?
I'm curious if Bungie has developed an entirely new engine for Destiny. I could imagine it's some gorgeous frankenstien of the previous engine too.
I still have yet to see any VFX examples from the trailers and can't wait to see how they look. (Aside from the one clip of an alien 'channeling' energy)

If it is, it'll be modified beyond recognition.

It seems like it'd be unique, but similar in some ways.

Legally, I don't believe it can use the HALO engine, but it could very well use one that is relatively similar.

Yea I read a few places that it is a brand new engine (SWEET!) made from scratch just for this game.

Simply put they will be using a lot of the technology that they have developed during their work on Halo ODST and reach.

I would have thought they'd lost the rights to it after the transition.

Whatever it is I would love to see more of their VFX in the viDoc's/Trailers. Their gun-porn looks amazing as expected but im really hoping they have some really awesome new FX to tease soon. I'd love to get my hands on that particle editor!

I remember seeing somewhere that in early prototyping they used the Halo engine to flesh out design ideas, but Destiny will have a brand new engine that they have spent the last few years building from scratch.

I'm sure the new engine iteration has it's roots firmly grounded in the Halo engine. To me, this would be a good thing, I love the way Halo controlled.

2 RespuestasI always thought Bungie used an in house engine called Blam! So with that assumption it's probably the same engine they used on Reach which in turn is from the previous Halo games.

My understanding is they did a major overhaul of their dev tools for the game.

1 RespuestaIn the vidoc they said they had to redo most of the artist tools. Now they can create and view in realtime, almost like more detailed version of forge.

4 RespuestasYou really don't develop completely new engines very often unless you are in the buisness of making engines for other people. It's always going to be a gorgeous frankenstein of the previous one, with certain systems gutted and completely redone and such.
