Marathon ( Confuses Me )

I don't understand what the appeal of Marathon is supposed to be. I'm not a PvP player, so I cant comment about what the appeal of an extraction shooter would be. But, I can say that I would not have started playing Destiny if the graphics made the game look like a broken computer game. The entire premise is backwards. The user should be a superhuman, or super warrior who can see clearly, even if the world around them is falling apart. What is the appeal of a short circuiting interface? Is it intended to hide bugs? I don't get it.

  • I think the glitchy effects are to communicate the artificial and disposable nature of the runner shells the players inhabit. They might also reinforce the unsettling feeling of a world where things have gone wrong and fallen apart. You’re supposed to feel vulnerable. I don’t know much about the lore - that’s just my basic understanding of it.

  • I'm not particularly impressed with the aesthetic of the game either. Then again, I was on the "outrage train" when I saw the graphics for 'Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker' and I felt like a fool afterwards so hey, who knows?
