Was the Witness just trolling Eramis? Or Bad Writing Again?

I'm guessing this just comes down to Bungie's bad/lazy writing again, or teams not paying attention to what the others are doing, but it just seems odd to me that the Witness needed the Traveler to open the portal to wherever...but was going to let Eramis attempt to destroy the Traveler in Season of the Seraph? Now personally I don't think the warsats would have even scratched the space magic golf ball, as we already know Rasputin was completely useless against Paracausal forces, but it just seems funny to me that Witness would knowingly allow her to try to destroy the thing needed for its plan. So was he just stringing Eramis along or trolling her for her failures on Europa?

  • I personally think he was trolling Eramis, as you say.

  • Maybe if Eramis fired the warsats it would have been enough for Xivu Arath to open a portal from her throne world allowing for her to obliterate Earth and humanity in full force. Sounds like something The Witness would allow.

i figured the warsats were about getting rid of us cause i imagine with a weapon like that would cause a lot of collateral damage, even if they wouldn't do anything to the traveller, they probably would have done a number on the city

  • I think it's more that she isn't important for his final plan, so he was just using her like he did calus. More than anything, he used her to manipulate us if you think about it.

    • My guess is that it was a calculated move to permanently remove Rasputin from the the playing board, by orchestrating an event where if he continued to exist humanity would fall. Not really because of what Eramis could have attempted to do to the traveler but what the warsats could have been used for in the witness and Xivu Arath’s hands had Eramis secured permeant control of the warsats. My guess is that the travelers presence has a suppressing effect on corruption in taken parts of the ascendent plane and maybe vex network as you get closer to it preventing Xivu Arath from warping in and possibly preventing the pyramid ships ability to jump or blink from elsewhere in the universe directly to Earth/ the inner Solar system (which might be why the cruised from behind Jupiter at the end of serph and had to cruise in ward during arrivals). so by striking the traveler the warsats might have stunned it dispelling any suppression it had enabled the witness to start it siege sooner and potentially enabling Xivu Arath to appear along side them with the additional carnage. potentially ending humanity on earth early and only leaving a handful of guardians, the Awoken and Neomuni (and possibly the Jovians, people that the nine supposedly rule over, but where their allegiance lie and the intentions of the remaining nine is unclear at this time) to against the witness

    • I vote for bad writing/teams doing a bad job communicating to each other. Probably they'll fix this "little" mistake by saying that the Witness knew that the Warsats couldn't destroy the Traveler but it used Eramis to make them shot the Traveler so that it would destroy them eventually or something like that.

He was trying to hasten her descent into the Darkside, Rhulk was dead, and Calus was lame, he needed an Eliksni Apprentice...I mean Disciple "Your anger has made you powerful , now fulfill your destiny" All while ignoring that if she did succeed in destroying it, he couldn't use it has the portal to wherever Bungie hasn't decided yet So the Witness is either really stupid, or Bungies seasonal and expansion narrative teams don't communicate at all, I can believe both

    • Bad writing? I think one way to rectify this was that Eramis was going to use the Warsats to wound the traveler, making it easier for the witness to do it’s thing…buuut that really doesn’t make sense

He was using Eramis to emoblize the Traveler. When the Traveler stopped moving away from Earth, the Witness knew it wasn't going to run away like before. Secondly, this was about pain. This was Eramis's chance to vent her anger. The Witness hates pain.

      • Wasn’t the use of the warsats tied to summoning Xivu’s forces? Not sure if I’m recalling it correctly. If it is, he was sacrificing her to bring in the more powerful hive forces that would of steamrolled us. That would of cleared the way for Calus to get to the Veil and activate it using the thingie he had.

Even if it didn’t the lasers would still kill alot on the ground bellow it, so people would die which is what Xivu needs to summon her forces. He was probably trying to destroy it or cripple it

        • The traveler is a machine. It probably would’ve died to the warsats. That’s just a contingency plan. One after another. If the traveler dies to warsats, good for the Witness. As long as the traveler loses, you know?

          • The thing with the Warsats was a ruse. The Witness used Eramis to locate the Traveler, it used Xivu Arath merely as a threat to have Earth’s defences switched off and it used Calus to locate the Veil so it could open the portal. It used the most blindly corrupt ‘leaders’ of the Traveler’s enemies for its own purposes.

            • More than likely stringing her along as punishment. The Witness already was turning dead members of her House into Scorn as punishment, I wouldn't put this past them. Besides like you said, the Warsats probably wouldn't have even scratched it so Eramis would be a sitting duck for us to kill.
