Can we move away from rng exotics?

Sure, it's amazing for the few people who get the exotic in the first 5 runs. But there are more people in the 50-run bracket who are not enjoying themselves. While if there is a questline, regardless of how easy or difficult it'll be, it's simply far more enjoyable and rewarding.

As a person who sherpas, thank god the exotic is rng. I still get annoyed when asked to do divinity runs.

  • at least put in bad luck protection instead of waiting a few season. like with how bungie handledthings from last wish on. vow got bad luck protection after 2 seasons later

  • They should just give out a quest for the exotic and if the player wants to they can make progress to get the exotic. They also can keep running the raid hoping to get the exotic even with the quest active. That way both types of players win.

  • Woah, watch out. I suggested that once and I got shamed for not being willing to subject myself to 50+ runs of an activity for a snowball's chance in hell that I'd get a raid exotic. Apparently, questlines that require raid completions or raid challenges completed like the OG Malice quest are now considered handouts by the elite no-life grinders.

Like it or not, RNG Raid Exotics are a big contributor to players coming back week-on-week and playing the activity.

  • Ehy Guardian. Instead of removing the RNG, I think a good working protection could also be nice. For example, everytime you complete a Raid (all steps, not only the Boss) with a Character and you don't get the Exotic, your chance increase of a tot %. In this way, in a maximum of, let's say 10 (just for example) runs with that character, you get the Exotic. In this way a player knows that the Exotic will arrive eventualy and will play the Raid instead of just farming the Boss over and over again.

    • I’m all for quests but they need to be incredibly hard, like touch of malice or outbreak, incredibly hard to discover so puzzles can just go unseen for weeks before discovery like black spindle. Most d2 quest are pretty grindy or just too easy to be worth an exotic.

    • I do miss the OG ToM and Outbreak quests. They were hard enough to actually justify having a raid exotic tied to a guaranteed quest. I think that D2’s exotic quests are way too easy compared to D1 anyway, but those two quests in particular were brutal and rewarding to complete.

      • Raid exotics should be a thing. Also quest exotics should be a thing too. (None of this lol thanks for $10 here’s your fusion rifle) I’m talking obnoxious solo quests. Anyone remember the OG sleeper quest? Bring that -blam!- back. No more hand outs. Pray at the altar of the rnjesus or do the quest to get paid. Also old -blam!- raid exotics from years ago should be purchasable at the kiosk with spoils. Not gonna lie, it’s dumb as -blam!- that stuff from 2 +years ago in raids no one does because they’re old still don’t show up in the kiosk. Bungie had a good idea with adding stuff in at the start of the kiosks existence but now it’s just a junk machine of trash.

        • The worst part is that the exotic is the base of your suit, so, if the exotic has a bad stat distribution, you can't run the stats you want. Say you want a grenade-based exotic, you probably want high dis. so your total dis. is high to work with the exotic's perk. 1 in 4 chance for an exotic to drop 12 possible exotics (Hunter gloves) Chance of high, low, mid stats Chance of distribution working with your build 1/4 X 1/12 X 1/3 X (1/3 X 1/3) = 1/1296 Every time you do a lost sector you have a 1 in 1,296 chance to get: An exotic, the one you want, with high stats, distributed the way you need. 1 in 1,296! Yeah, there's gotta be a better way.

          • Quests - even a pain in the -blam!- quest - for exotics is the better way. If Bungie wants a certain amount of raid completions prior to getting the exotics they can just make it part of the quest.

            • I would be content with much less loot if we got better and more predictable loot. Right now, we're just forty-niners with pans in hand, sifting through the dross.

            • Outbreak Prime in D1 and wrath of the machine (still the most fun raid they've ever done IMHO) did it just right. Don't give it away, just make it where it is obtainable on the first try. I thought we had learned with Divinity, but nope. It took me 3 runs to get anarchy, lost count how many runs to get Tarrabah, 11 runs to get Eyes of Tomorrow, untold runs to get 1000 voices, and have yet to get vex. I ly cleared Kingsfall once so not going to rag on it yet . Point being, that is a LOT of time and frustration.

              • In an ideal situation every exotic would either be earned through a Whisper or Outbreak type quest or a raid puzzle like Divinity. There is nothing good about the RNG in this game. I stopped doing seals and triumphs early on due to the amount of RNG tied into each of them and the lack of meaningful rewards beyond look at my fancy title. Only the most addicted continue to grind away like lab rats hitting the button for a food pellet. I found this game became much more enjoyable when I ignored all the youtubers saying 'YOU MUST LOG ON TODAY TO GET THE SPECIAL MOD'. No, this game doesn't have enough fresh content to play every day or every week even. It is worth logging on for the new content and that's about it.

              • Divinity was pretty miserable to get unless you had an amazing team. D1 outbreak also sucked since you had to have 1 of each class and had to do a math puzzle. I would be in favor of buffing drop rates once you get a certain amount of clears without the exotic. I know at present there is bad luck protection but it only increases by 1% on your 1st clear of the week. So mabe after 30 clears it should jump up to 10% and then at 50 it could jump up 20%.

We also need to stop putting exotics behind having to do a raid or in unmatchmade dungeons

                  • I agree that RNG kinda blows, but this is a game where they need people to keep playing to keep interest alive and the game profiting. It is their business afterall. That aside, I would not be against the same treatment 1K Voices has with it's stacking chances each clear per week. At the very least, people get it in 1, at most, they get it in 20. Is it still bad? Sure but that odds someone would get to 20 is insanely low. Still better than 5% chance each week.

                    • No. RNG is the main drive of this game. If you're at 20 lootable clears, then you should get a quest to unlock the weapon.

                    • I remember vanilla D2 exotics dropped left and right from public events, had every base game exotic in the period of 2 weeks of play other than acrius, made the game boring when everything was obtained in such short time. While RNG can be punishing and some form of bad luck protection would be nice it’s better now than it used to be.

                    • i want to see an odds chance of getting exotics from a lost sector.. i swear its impossible to get one after it gives you the intended new one. even if you happen to get an exotic drop, it will have extremely low stats..

                      • I wouldn't care if they had loot protection that clearly worked. Even the farmable drops need some kind of cap.

                      • Actually rng exotics are less common than guaranted ones. It is what makes those exotic drops exciting tbh. Having everything handed to you for doing a little easy quest feels pretty lame

                        • You really want to go back to D2Y1 levels of boring with exotics being handed out like sweets? RNG exotic drops have been a core part of the games identity since the beginning.
