After Bungie removed a bunch of paid content I waited a little while to see how I felt about it before I decided to speak up about it; well, its been a year, and most people I know are still upset about it. At the time our gaming group were regular players of Destiny 2, but the removal of all the content we had paid for really felt like a betrayal, and folks immediately advocated for other games to be played, and Destiny 2 was generally forgotten. Recently, one of our groups members mentioned possibly looking into some DLC from Destiny 2, and the rest of the group spoke up that they can't trust Bungie to not take away what they purchase in the future, and therefore wouldn't be giving Bungie any new money.
This prompted me to wonder how things have turned out for Bungie after they took away all the content/DLC their users had paid for. I know I personally had purchased all the DLC prior to Beyond Light, and I know all the people in our gaming group had paid for all the DLC prior to Beyond Light; was the loss of all the potential future purchases that could have occurred had Bungie dealt honestly with their users worth what ever they made by taking away the paid content? Just curious.

1. You didn't pay for the content. You paid for a LICENSE that lets you play the game. Bungie reserved the right to decide what "the game" is....you agreed to that when you agreed to the terms of the license agreement (that box you checked that says "I agree" before they let you play the game or any other major update). 2. Bungie has been transparent about why they did this. Storage space on PS5 and XBSX is limited and expensive. Right now all you have on a Ps5 is 600 GB of storage...and there is no way to expand it. You have 800 GB on XBSX....and it cost $200 to expand it another 800 GB. Whereas $200 can buy you an outboard hardrive for a PS4 that will hold 6 to 10 TB of games. So while they were on PS4, Bungie could allow this game to grow in an uncontrolled fashion and let years worth of content accumulate. But with the swtich to the newest generation of consoles, they simply can't do that anymore....and as soon as this pandemic is over and the console makers can ramp up production to meet demands again? Those machines will quickly saturate the market. So, realistically, Bungie had no choice but to do this. Which means we the players, sometimes have to accept that the good-of-the-game requires the devs to do things that we dont' like, or that we find personally inconvenient.

10 RespuestasBungie said they could take away content at a moments notice. But then again, most of you don't read the EULA in your games. Hopefully this teaches you that companies don't care about you sweetie.

5 RespuestasYou don’t pay to own the content, you pay to play the content, it’s in the small print. Js

6 RespuestasI don’t think they’re losing much money over them removing content. People still purchased Beyond Light, knowing content was going away. People are still playing, even with the risk of content going away again. Now I’m not thrilled over that decision, I miss some of those strikes and raids, but it definitely wasn’t a nail in the coffin for their franchise. I guess the real test will be when their next major expansion launches, then we can see how the numbers have shifted!
