Bungie & gamers! what are your thoughts on FORBES article dated 1/20/2020??

From the article: "A quote has stuck with me I read once, that if players see too much to do in too limited of a time, it’s not that they might not finish all the content, it’s that they might not even bother starting it. I’m seeing that start to happen frequently in the seasonal model, and I’m concerned it may only accelerate if this philosophy continues'... https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2020/01/22/destiny-2s-you-had-to-be-there-philosophy-is-turning-off-players/#70b83a861b3a Edit 1/30/2020 Thank you to the many many many great and sound and cordial interactions taking place under this post. You are bringing in some legit points and value in sharing your experiences especially when seeing so many d1 vets in here.

  • I actually agree with it. The FOMO model is what drove me away in the end. I want to do things on my terms. Add a timer and it kills any incentive to start the content. Hence why I've barely played the Dawn. I don't have time to be playing games anymore where it's more about manipulation and threatening to remove content then making a good game.

I think it's 100% correct. Both D1 and D2 have suffered from periods of drought where the player base was unhappy. The difference between them is that with D1, I wanted to play but there was nothing to do. With D2, there is plenty to do but I don't want to play. Destiny 2: 'Killed by the Architects'

      • I always have to wonder after 5 years how another developer has not copied cat this game and made it good. Anthem tried and failed, Division is not a space power fantasy game, and Warframe, although being the closest of the genre, still doesn't cut it with me. I've always though if there was another fps/hybrid mmo/ loot shooter, that Bungie would have to make better decisions because of competition. Since there is no real competition, they can keep making these strange decisions time and time again and slip by another dlc or season. I'm almost thinking that other developers looked into this type of game and decided to pass on making another like it. (Except Anthem devs, but we all know how that turned out) Hopefully one day Destiny can be the game everyone can be happy with, or we get another developer that knocks it out of the park and shows Bungie how its done. So far, we are stuck with Bungie if your into this kind of game.

        • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g162cPftV98 Whilst I'm not a great fan of influencers and their affect on modern gaming, Datto summed it up perfectly at the beginning of this video when he said "there's so much to do and none of it matters" that is Destinys big problem at the moment, that and the f*cking ridiculous amount of bugs lately, I don't know about anyone else but my favourite endgame activity is "hunt the clipped add"......

          • There isn't anything to do that feels as well crafted as Halo did. Bungie can pile their gutter oil fast food on my plate and I won't eat it, but it's not the amount that's the problem. It's the fact they're using gutter oil, and continue to do so.

          • I can definitely see his point here. Until recently I played destiny every day - logged around 1000 hours last year. I just can’t invest myself in content that will disappear after 3 months. And honestly - how many god rolls do you need? Right now I play every week to unlock the season pass rewards, do my gambo and vanguard dust bounties and then I’m out. I couldn’t care less about armor 2.0, endless grinding for gear, then made partially obsolete after 3 months. I hate the fact that almost all armor drops with stats in the low 50s. It SUCKS that ONLY eververse ornaments are universal... this is a really shady sales strategy plain and simple. All armor should be ornaments...

            • I’m not a fan of the way seasons are put out now, a lot of clan members are discouraged to even try when their progress is erased next season reset. I’ll keep playing though.

                • The guy is an idiot, he's not had a single original idea of his own, so what if he writes shit articles for Forbes? It's not as if they're a decent site anyway. All he does is trawls reddit and forums n writes up the exact same as what he's just read. Half the folk on here could do a much better job and be more creative.

                  • I consider myself a casual player. I came back into Destiny after Forsaken and the learning curve was really steep. It took me a while to get my bearings and to understand all the new things of the game. Fast forward to Shadowkeep with all the planets, bounties, Armor 2.0, etc. For a new player, I would honestly test the game out and leave because the learning curve is vastly much steeper than before. I do not want to research on Youtube how my armor mods work and how this works with this. I want to turn the game on and go shoot things. Then, after 3 months all of my work gets "reset" and everyone starts with a clean slate again...no thanks. This business model is unsustainable in the long term. The Destiny fanbase is very loyal, but you have to give them something to keep coming back for. Also, as a business you need new players to stay and play the game to grow. It is a delicate balance and I understand that, but I strongly feel this is simply not the way to do that for the long term.

                  • Absolutely true. I've organised my free time better lately and despite having the season pass, I've not even progressed past the main story in current season. Just too much grind and can't be bothered.

                    • I'm not sure I agree with it. Having too much to do has never put me off in any way. What puts me off is wasting my time, poor rewards, and mindless busy work. While we are on the subject, horde modes are starting to wear on me a little.

I broke the cycle by not buying SK or season 8, as more cosmetic stuff is limited to a certain cash shop. I suppose $10 every 4 months is ok, but I wouldn’t encourage that either. Limited time content doesn’t help the devs who make it or the revolving door of players that come and go

                      • 90% of his articles are always negative about the game. I feel like he tries to inspire negativity and how he gets people to read the article. So I stopped caring a long time ago about his opinion. Forbes should look for a new writer for the game.

                        • If I have to choose between the current seasonal content approach and warmind/curse of osiris expansions I would choose the latter. Yes Curse Of Osiris/Warmind was bad if I remember but at least there was always some good stuff there and plenty grindy stuff to grind and has a cool short story quest. To be honest I totally didn't mind the FOMO approach because we already had a lot of content in D2 and if we'd have kept all the activities from all seasons this would have been a big file size and that's something many players don't want if they have to download so in a way it's nice to keep it condensed as long as there are plenty to do without burning out. Give them every reason to come back to D2.

                          • Fomo doesn’t factor for me at all. If I get something, I get it. If not, it’s inconsequential to me. In the end, it doesn’t matter at all. There’s always something else coming. But then, I’m an adult. To me, FOMO is more of an issue for kids/teens/ people just starting their 20s.

                            • This article is why I almost exclusively play this game for the PVP. I dabble in the PVE content at my leisure but do not invest heavily in it. I play crucible because I enjoy it. No matter how stale or congested or deep the PVE content is at any given time....the crucible is fairly consistent. PVE types who REFUSE to play crucible baffle me.

Cause after the first month of a three month season pass, I was finding it hard to find reasons to play. I played Anthem for a week, barely touched Destiny during that time. Didn't really miss it. I've been playing more recently now that some new stuff is dropping. But honestly, as much as I LOVE this game, it's starting to get a little stale Does this guy think before he publishes anything? Or does he just vomit on his keyboard and pray that he keeps his job for another week. Edit: after reading some of the other comments I want to add this. You all complain about how Destiny has become stale, boring, mundane, reskined garbage, but yet when Tassi says the opposite, y'all can't wait to get in line to suck him off. Grow a spine, and get your own opinions. Stop listening to guys like Tassi or Datto. Seriously. It's pathetic.

I say that cause this is only a topic now cause datto said something. The same datto the community swears ruined the game, yet they treat his opinion like gospel lol.
