Uh, no? The graphics are pretty bad. Environment doesn't react at all or change. Textures in the game world can be outright questionable. Character models often have clipping issues depending on the armor equipped. Sure the backdrops are nice, but those have been nice in most games for a long time. They're easy. For all of its thoroughly average looks, the floaty gameplay holds it back. Giant setpieces instead of smaller, more detailed environments. Plenty of assets are thrown around multiple planets as if we wouldn't notice technology being out of place. Sure some of it looks pretty, but a lot of it is in the wrong spot. Really we're just looking at different textures tunnels to run down and shoot stuff in. The detail is not there. At all. Detail often makes or breaks graphics. You can be as pretty as you want, if it's all copy and pasted it never looks quite right. Then we have animations. Plenty of those look like garbage, too. The game is was showing its age at launch. Not a good thing.

    This is all true but that’s more optimization of graphical systems, not the graphics themselves. For instance, the gun models alone are actually really detailed. Edit: The skyboxes are also objectively VERY detailed graphically.

  • I've mentioned the sky boxes. It's actually one of their strong suits. Textures on basic things in world are kinda bland. This only gets better on PC. The gun models entirely depends on the gun. The filler stuff doesn't get a lot of attention. Sure some legendaries and most of the exotics had effort put into them. It's the rest that doesn't work. The art work is all over the place so you never get a sense of cohesion in the world. The world itself is worse, you never get the sense you're in a unique place. Not very often anyways. That's not graphical, but it plays a part in the overall look. Destiny just doesn't convey places that [i]seem[/i] real. Doing that is paramount in fantasy settings. The trap is set pieces. Which most Destiny fans fall for. Sadly, having a brainstem reminds me I'm playing shitty Simon Says game, whenever a ball or proximity mechanic begins. You wrap all that up and it's no wonder Destiny is so forgettable. INB4 the next thread claiming this game even scratches the balls of good shooters. Yuck.

  • Great points man. Completely agree. They can’t decide on a theme yet also can’t create something new. But Destiny as a series is hardly forgettable imo, maybe that’s just because I have a bias after loving the franchise for 4 years... Either way, although i’ve played a ton of games and game series, Destiny is the only one that I always come back to. Holds a special place is my heart.

  • You do have a bias. If the bleeding player base and shelves of copies of D1/D2 being traded in isn't some indication it turned a lot of people off, I don't know what it. Bungie used to display players online right from the game menu. They don't do that anymore. Ever wonder why? If you love this game (which you shouldn't) you quitting and getting your clan to do so, as well, is the healthiest thing for it. The sooner this game sees a sharp drop off in players, the faster we see legitimate good changes.

  • You may have mistaken me. I stop playing this game often. As do most of my clan. We usually return every time something new changes, and usually we all agree we like the changes (to QoL). This exludes PvP, of course.

  • Well, I'm not a -blam!-, I guess. Not hard to tell assets and resources were wasted and the overall level design was pretty awful. You never feel like you're in a place, just a themed hallway.

  • 3d design was never my thing. Buddy of mine does it though, hard work. Really good 3d models take a long time to get perfect. Destiny on the other hand settled for serviceable. With comically bad weapon design. Like, needs space magic to fire, because the design is that bad. They don't appear functional. Some of them have interesting designs for sure, but nothing special. A lot do those guns got left behind in D1, oddly enough. D2 has a lot of cartooney looking crap.

  • I've played it on one X and PC. The game is not pretty. You clearly don't have much experience with pretty games as most of destiny's beauty is surface. There's nothing particularly well designed. But please. Explain to me which part of the game looks amazing. I'm sure if we glance to the left we'll see some garbage textures.

  • Deus Ex. Fairly good textures, VERY well made world. Takes two to tango. Nice textures are nice, they ain't crap if the world is bland/empty/devoid of life. Destiny has random blacked out doors as spawns. What is this 2007? Raise the bar, my guy.

  • You’re criticizing them for pointing off places with good graphics as if they’re fact, but you literally started off your claim not even picking out places, just saying “yeah all the pretty visuals you love? Look real carefully and they’re trash”. You’re not coming off as the wise contrarian role you’re laying out for yourself here by trying negate one of the good aspects of D2, you just look picky and pretentious.

  • Yawn. Saying the opposite doesn't make it true. This game is not graphically attractive at all. What it does well pretty much every other game TODAY can do. If you do the average for most everything and bad at the rest, are you "great"? I'm thinking not. World hubs are lifeless. Enemy mobs are mostly low detail with janky animations. Rubble, walls, the ground, some places look fine and others look like they were forgotten about. I get the flashy Nova bomb looks pretty. There's the rest of the game to look at. Morons bedazzled by a few flashy animations and a sky box. All of the sudden this game is "pretty". Are you aware of how spread thin the resources are on this game? It can't afford to look good anywhere except for PC (a place I'll admit a lot of the textures are very much improved). PC really doesn't count when console is the largest paid market. Pretentiousness implies not knowing dick. It's fairly obvious this community doesn't know dick, about much of anything. You get dunked on by Bungie monthly, players bleed off daily, you're lied to constantly. But member the graphics??? Lel.
