This is why SBMM is a thing and should remain a thing.

Thank you Mr Fruit. He said it best. "Being a good player, playing against lower skilled players makes you lazy and allows you to get away with things you wouldn't normally." Getting pubstomped doesn't make lower skilled players better. It makes the better player feel good and their stats look better. That is all. I hope DestinyFunPolice sees this. Shep or whatever his name is told me "SBMM is bad." and my attitude toward CBMM was wrong. I think it's mostly because he can't run around with garbage weapons and pull a 40+ defeat game for his review vids. Blueberry lives matter ~ dadestroya69

  • I wouldn't necessarily call myself a high skilled player. Maybe back in day, but I've definitely diminished since then. (Getting old and injured sucks, kids.) My SBMM must still be set to when I used to play religiously (during Forsaken) because I'm still getting thrown into games where I get straight abused, assaulted and bamboozled. I may get an occasional match where I manage a "decent" game but most of them are pretty much blowouts.

  • Playing against people at your skill doesn’t really help you either. It helps, sure, but it will take a while. The best way to improve quickly is playing against people better than you, observing how they play and incorporating it into your own playstyle. I say this as someone who is currently learning a new game: CSGO. I started playing about 3 weeks ago and I have 40 comp wins, having initially placed silver elite master and climbed to gold nova 2 since then. Improving in that game is very hard and a very slow process because the skillgap is unbelievably large unlike destiny, and the best way I have found to improve is playing my friends who are better than me and therefor playing against people better than me. The friends I play with are either distinguished master guardian or legendary eagle which are much higher than my rank, so when we play together I get stomped. I go negative every game. But I also spectate my friends play and see how they make decisions as well as observe how enemies play and figure out ways to counter them plus working on aim and reaction time and the improvement is obvious. When I play in my rank now I top frag almost every game and work with my teammates a lot better. That same concept pretty much applies to destiny. I know playing against better players is annoying. But if you use it as a learning experience you will find yourself getting better quickly.

    • I'm confused by SBMM, I've just lost 5 of 5 comp matches, against lunas, NFs etc and it was very 1 sided, how is that right?

      • Yeah it should be a thing but it is still not- no matter what anyone says. I sure as heck wish it was though... I know my skill gap is much lower than most and it seems I am constantly on the receiving end of the screwjobs

      • Here's my question, why do some top tier players assume that only they get matched against laggy players? Why do they assume that only the top tier players sweat each match because of SBMM? Remember when you guys messaged people and asked them to get good? Well, maybe it's time for you to get good.

This thread is a perfect example of how toxic a good portion of the community has gotten. Why people are still fighting over SBMM being in the game is a mystery to me. If you don't like SBMM, then play Classic Mix. What is the problem, that other players can actually enjoy the game? How could Bungie actually make a change that benefits the entire community? How dare they right? It is ridiculous!!! I have played both playlists and they are exactly as they are intended to be. You don't want to play crucible with SBMM, then don't, it's not that hard.

              • When you're good, playing against people at your level can be fun, but when every game is like that, it gets frustrating real fast. "gO pLaY cLaSsIc MiX tHeN" Because Classic Mix is the only CBMM playlist, all the good players who don't want to sweat go in there and it just becomes another sweatfest. There needs to be more than one CBMM option to disperse people out.

                • Eh, remove stats from everything but the glory playlists and we are golden. People care too much about their stats and that's why it seems like no one has fun. Because they want to brag about a massive kill game they got against people who don't know their thumbs from their toes. And before random person comes by to tell me that I say that because I'm bad at the game, go ahead and take a look at my stats. Compare it to yours. I might have better stats. I'm not proud of it. Top 500 in Iron Banner this season and almost every season, yet I want actual SBMM in the game? I feel like some Iron Banner matches are farming lobbies half the time, and I solo que Iron Banner. Seriously. Please, actual SBMM. The blueberries don't deserve to have many, various, unnamed explicitives done to them. Blueberry lives matter? Maybe.

                  • The funny thing is ppl on lfg only wanting to play with ppl with high kdr. Wtf does high kdr even mean? That you mostly farm crap players? Cuz if you're playing with ppl on your skill level you will never have much more than a 1.2 kdr.

                    • I don’t get the argument, I get “better” everytime I play crucible. Cbmm or Sbmm doesn’t matter! I don’t care what they call it, I just want to play when I want to play. I win some, I lose some. Sometimes I stomp, sometimes I get stomped even against the same teams. My only true frustration with this game is lag. And that only happens enough to be annoying!

                      • Issue is if you just want to chill and use fun load outs, you will be stomped by all the sweat lords in your lobby. We need the main pvp playlist, I think it is control, to have pure CBMM and a freelance option. Currently CBMM is in classic mix which has it’s icon off to the side and in a dark color like private matches making new players avoid it so you mainly find sweat players in there. I do agree that SBMM should be in all other playlist though.

                        • The main argument I see is that it isn't fun to get pubstomped, and that players that don't want SBMM to be an omnipresent element only feel that way because they're afraid of any sort of challenge. To that I want to ask the question: "If we follow the logic that games are supposed to be fun, wouldn't it stand to reason that the top 1% should also be allowed to have their fun?" Contrary to what a lot of people might believe, having neck and neck drag out matches all the time isn't fun to everyone. When you cordon off the 1% to a space where they only fight the 1% you turn their experience into a constant struggle to win. Is that fair? If you believe that games should be fun for everyone, the answer to that should be no, right?

                              • CBMM is good becasue I don't want to play against some guy in china when i'm playing in Canada who then has terrible internet and then further degrades his internet by using wifi, 47 devices etc.. so yeah, I want to play against players who have good connections so that my movement and my aim coincide with what is on the screen and so do the other players I play against. SBMM is good becuse I want to play against others that are in the same skill gap as I am. If I choose to use bad load outs thats on me, in a competitive environment where score is a thing, there is no sweaty or casual game, each is about winning.. you want to test out that X weapon.. public events, patrol, literally anywhere but, pvp. The problem with each is that they can't exist in this game due to small pools of players. If I want CBMM but, there are not enough players to fill that match, it widens the gap and you get shit internet ruining the experience for everyone. Solution.. there is either waiting longer and bungie requiring a stablle level of internet above what about 20% of players actually have. The issue with SBMM is basically the same, not enough players so it fills with others bringing in for high end players, many low end players and for those lower end players, more high end players.. it just doesn't mesh with the volumn of players. I wish I could find the article written by one of the devs on how the matchmaking algorithms work and they take into consideration weighted measurments for both skill and connection and when they widen that gap, if those relaxed rules are put in place, can very much screw up that match due to the players that it will grab. There is no answer to playing with one or the other and using both is a fine line. Then ad in playing with a couple friends with varying degrees of skill or internet connection. We complain and it is also why bungie has tried to manipulate your games for wins and losses, to keep you interested, to keep things in your mind... fair would be the best way to put it. Basically stacking the game in your favor or not based on what they deem appropriate for you. There is no true tier system, you are always playing against bungies algorithms, and not other players.

People on my skill level? -blam!- off! If they were on my skill level my k/d wouldn't be the lowest it's ever been; I consistently got a 1.0-2.0 k/d, now I'm getting k/ds of 0.25. Whenever I get into a fight it's like I'm already dead or I get shot more from behind. INb4 get gud
