Because this forum is the only official means of giving any sort of feedback to Bungie. I am mainly a PvE player, but have actually played a fair bit of PvP lately (with all its horrible problems) because the PvE side, especially old content like Mars, is completely stagnant. Now while me voicing my opinion on things I don’t like in this game is pretty pointless, no one can say I haven’t given feedback about things I don’t like as the game continues down a path I enjoy less and less.

Why would they want feedback from someone who didn't contribute?

Because the feedback is if they want a player like me to contribute/play/get involved, they need to make the content relevant, not just put in zero effort trying to extend tired old content with an emblem. Oh sorry, and giving extra rewards in menagerie which they took away after no one complained about there being too many rewards. But also, what sort of business wouldn’t want to know why someone is not enjoying/playing/buying their product? It would actually be very stupid of a company to ignore that sort of feedback. But then again, people have asked for old content to be updated for a long time, and as usual, Bungie is tone deaf.

I need those materials ready in case I keep playing when Shadowkeep comes out without spending hours playing boring old meaningless content I’m sick of. I think that’s actually really fair feedback, that the old content is boring and not interesting enough to play to build up materials. Update old content, make year one weapons have random rolls, change up the old planets to make them new and exciting and then I’ll go play them. Real, honest, fair feedback.

The whole game is playing the same stuff over and over and over. Unless they’re going to update stuff after a few months, I’ve got better things to do than get the same old ‘rewards’ I’ve had for months.

Because Destiny has so much POTENTIAL. And that’s also the reason their really bad choices, their slowness to react and their push towards micro transactions is all the more infuriating.
