I need tips on being a dm.

I tried being a dm a few times here but I always have an issue where a player is able to trivialize the entire thing due to an unexpected an ability or weapon. This tends to make me panic and abandon the event.

  • Have people give you their loadouts, and adjust or add new enemies to combat the players’ weapons and abilities.

  • Either make the enemy more OP, ignore the user, or remove their power.

      • There is no true way about going about it, right the best way in my experience is to let come and deal with them accordingly to to theirs ability, someone try to force a fleet into a ground war, Anti airship defenses are in the way and warn them about it. Teleporting bullshit, use a device/ realm that prevents such. Worse case senecio, stop replying. In truth it should be about balance between the Rp and Dm but sometimes you just got to do what’s best.
Sips Abyss
• Unless you know those specific people will show up and make things less fun for everyone else then you'll just have to improvise. Also, asking people to maybe tune it down a bit or just flat out saying no is okay sometimes! Some folks are only interested in their own fun even if it ruins the game for others. Like while everyone else is trying to solve a puzzle to open a door, these jerkfaces will just pick it up and toss it aside because they're just SO STRONG AND AWESOME. Or while people are defending the walls against an attacking army they'll use their fleet of space ships to just bomb the site from orbit. Yay so fun for everyone else! Sure, you could waste time spending 100+ replies just countering their OP bullshit with your own OP bullshit so they won't trivialize the game you made for EVERYONE to enjoy...but that can also ruin the fun for others because then they also have to deal with the OP bullshit even though they didn't come to the game with a Dragon Ball Z character. So it's easier to just say "nah man." Besides, in my experience they usually get annoyed after awhile because you won't let them just insta win anyway so screw those flaming poop monsters.

        • If you don’t have a current main campaign, a little improv quest will always be fun

        • From XDM - X-Treme Dungeon Mastery An XDM... . Makes an effort to make the game fun and exciting for everyone. . Tosses out the rules when they are in the way of a good time. . Tosses out the dice when they are in the way of a good time. . Tosses out the players when they are in the way of a good time. . Paints the picture with style! (Show, don't tell.) . Never cheats the players! . Makes up the rules when necassary. . Listens to his/her audience! . Knows that the better the prep, the better the game. . Always knows where the exit is,and keeps it handy. . Uses stagecraft, pyrotechnics, sleight-of-hand, AND lasers! . Plays out ALL consequences. . Plays out ethics until the players squeal! . Knows the difference between a good story and a bad joke. . And...uses ONLY officially sanctioned XDM black t-shirts, jeans, dice, and protective gear. An XDM NEVER... . Caves in to ANY rules-lawyering. . Backs down from a call: the 'No, pigs can actually fly here' rule. . Reads aloud from the adventure description text. . Refers to the rules book...EVER! . Makes up the adventure as it goes. . Starts a fire they cannot put out. . Saws anyone in half they cannot put back together. . Allows players to make simulated damage real. . Listens to the voices ... the terrible voices in your head . . And...uses ANYTHING but officially sanctioned XDM black t-shirts, jeans, dice, and protective gear.

          • The first step on being the Dog-Man, I suggest: - A leash & collar - A Toy bone pacifier - A pair of dog ears - A Dog costume (Nakitt) Then walk around a street corner, pee on someone’s fence and bark at everyone you see.

            • If you want some fun ideas for Dming look up Dee Bashew on youtube. He has some pretty good stories and situations you can put the party through.
