  • I did some research once to check how they felt after the event. General Douglas MacArthur had a very different view than the general public. He knew japan was trying to negotiate surrender from February of that year. But the American government would not agree unless the Japanese people renounced the emperor. However when the surrender did come it was conditional and the condition was a continuation of the imperial reign. Had the generals advice been followed, The resort to atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki would have been unnecessary.
