Sleeper Simulant

Okay. Here's the thing. This behind my swords is my second favorite exotic heavy... But the thing is, it just doesn't... Feel... Like it should be an exotic weapon. It's a fusion cannon, sure, I get that. And it does crit damage, cool. But.. What is the point of "tearing through" enemies and bouncing multiple times off objects? I think I have all of once had a reflected impact hit something else. Okay it's a one hit kill body shot in crucible, so are RPGs. They claim they set it up so that you can inflict multiple crits on vehicles by shooting say walker legs when they are all in a row, I've tested, it's not happening, so they're either lying, or they screwed up. And then they say "we have nerfed a problem where the reflected shot is causing double impacts to the same enemy which was unintended".... THEN WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT OF OVERPENETRATION WITH REFLECTION?! EXPLAIN! Not just this but the hardlight too. If the point of overpenetration with skip rounds isn't to let you hit the same target twice with the projectile, why are we even doing it? So when there are other weapons that simply do more damage over time, or require less skill, why is this weapon an exotic?... Now, lets say, in PVE only, when you hit a target, kills explode and split the beam into two which each deal half damage, and autotrack to another target, kills explode again, and split again, until the laser dissipates... Now that's worth being an exotic... But if you can't multi-damage a target in player vs enemy, why even bother. It's just wasted computations. The fusion cannon should have been a new weapon type, not just a specific exotic, or else the weapon needs buffs, not nerfs. If nothing else give it an area of effect so that you can shoot it through clusters of ags and have it damage more than just the one in the dead middle.

  • For such a hard quest to get a lackluster weapon, I agree. By hard, I mean long and annoying.

  • It's just a marketing trick. They use excuses to nerf old powerful weapons to make the 'new' weapons from the next DLC look more powerful. They make old stuff into shit so you buy the new stuff. Planned obsolesence again and again!

Ultimately multidamaging a single target doesn't seem to be the goal of the perk it seems to be more orientated toward hitting a room full of people or adds bouncing off walls hitting anything in its path. HOWEVER I really don't know about you but I've never gotten a kill off a bounce or seen damage numbers for that matter other than when you could kill yourself that way by strategically standing up against a wall or in a Titan bubble Never helped me clear enemies though.

      • I like the gun it's super fun but I've killed myself more times with the ricochet than I've even killed something else hell I don't think I've ever killed an enemy with ricochet rounds while I've lost count of the times I've seen "misadventure" on my death screen

      • HAha, it's funny. The bouncing laser has only worked for me since I've gotten it. The first time I crispified, de-atomized, or whatever term is appropriate, myself in the process of trying to nuke the bond brothers. The second time, I missed a stormcaller only to have the shot ricochet three time and anally dissect him (tap the ass from behind). I was fun, at first I though it was lag.

      • It's just a burst damage weapon like Gjallarhorn used to be. Black Spindle will do more sustained damage. If you need a lot of damage in about 2 seconds, use the Sleeper. If you need a lot of damage over a while, use the Spindle.

      • It's pointless sadly. A thousand yard does more damage with full reserves than sleeper.

          • If you buffed it as you described the forums would be ablaze with cries for nerfs. Unfortunately we can't have anything like that because of PvP.

What if they had different modes? Here. Three modes to pick from, tell me how they sound to you. Mode 1, long range high power. Can be fired from the hip but your best bet bet is aim and fire, works mostly the way it does now. Only instead of bounce rounds it creates a one meter area of effect around the beam, so firing it into a group of charging aggs will take down most of them. Mode 2, continuous beam. Think of it as a HMG with skip rounds and armor piercing plus no recoil... Suppose balance this by making it slightly less dps than the standard HMG, fires a steady laser that will reflect multiple times... Also if you hit your self with a reflection, you are effed... Would be fun to have a strike where there are crystals in the walls and ceilings so you can turn them into disco balls of death and destruction. Mode 3 uses a targeting computer. Kinda a semicircle shaped scope instead of the normal one. Scans the evironment infront of you quires a targeting solution. Perhaps 7 to 10 targets, if less than the set number of targets it evaluates the strongest enemies and targets them for multiple impacts. The targeting computer is slooooow which means while it is possible to use it in crucible, you'd still be better off using an rpg as to multikill with this you'll have to 1, get multiple targets together at the same place and same time, 2, maintain clear line of sight with your targets, 3, be able to conceal your self while target acquisition is taking place. If someone moves out of targeting frame you lose them as an available target. So using it in pvp would be very, very, situational, and only really attractive because it can potentially hit targets that are outside of explosion range of the rpg. I think this makes the weapon a lot more fun and variable in application while not making it too dificult to balance because it's applications ultimately not completely different form other existing weapon archetypes. The thing you would do with this you could also do with a machine gun or a launcher.

            • If you're familiar with Borderlands The Presequel there is a character, Athena, who has a skill that turns her shield into a pinball capable of deflecting and hitting up to four nearby targets. The way they balanced it was that it did 33% less damage with each new target. But the tracking was automatic. This is exactly how Sleeper Simulant should function: Auto tracking with each deflection up to four targets in proximity, and 33% damage reduction against each new target.

            • What was that Deathbattle qoute for the Spartan Laser? "It's a Laser pointer, that points things into Oblivion!" It's just one of those exotics were it's true exotic feature is not it's perks, but just it's base function. The perks are almost as though they're supposed to be a bit pointless in face of the guns base effectiveness. Lord of Wolves is another such example. It's exotic perk is nearly a toss-away because of how close allies need to be in order to benefit from it. It is however a really strong shotgun because of how accurate it is making precision hits really easy to get further back, how it can deal with groups stronger because it firesi in burts, and essentially reload faster than other shotguns to keep the stream of damage going. It was my " Go to" PoE weapon back in HoW because of it's firing method and reload, not it's exotic perk. Hard light though.. not that great. Right now it's "No damage falloff" is it's the best effect. Altough both it and Sleeper are FANTASTIC and getting you out of containment fields generated by Vex bubbles, though the Sleeper is a fair bit risky. TL;DR is the true exotic-ness of it is it's high single target damage at considerable range, not it's perks. Some exotics are just like that.

              • It needs more control over the ricochet! So far after the initial shot there is no way of controlling where the shot bounces. Same goes kind of for hardlight IMO ...

                • Everything about this gun is a letdown, from the moment they hyped it as the next gjallarhorn (Game Informer even said you had to find 50 pieces scattered across the game) to the moment I got it to 335 and got all perks. When it comes to bosses, black spindle shits all over this gun. Apparently Bungie thinks we all hipshot fusion rifles. Like the OP said, there are ZERO instances where you can use the final perk on bosses. The only spot in the entire game where I find this useful is at Oryx on KF for shooting the ogres. This gun needs to go back to the drawing board.

                  • Cool idea, SS is one of my fav exotics too, but only really useful to drop huge dps on single targets, the beams at least reflecting toward neaby enemies would be cool.
