you're in a crowded and loud club, you hear gunshots, you look to your right and see someone with a gun, you take out yours and shoot him. Oh no you killed an innocent man who drew his gun to stop the mass shooter. Then you get shot because someone else heard gunshots and saw you shooting someone. Do you see the problem with your idea?

I have heard the argument so many times and for what I'm about to say regarding it, I hope people can look at it unbiased and objectively. Yes. America does have quite a few gun related killings. In fact is has a lot. Many we probably don't even hear about. But here's the thing. I always hear the argument about how "If guns make you safer than why are there so many gun related crimes in America?" Well, that's because of a few things. A) Most shootings occur in gun free or gun restricted zones. The Dark Knight Rises shooting? Gun free zone. Columbine? Gun free. These shootings occur in places where only the shooter would possess a gun. B) Let's say for a minute that guns are the cause of the violence. And America has a lot of guns. - An estimated 5 registered guns for every 1 citizen. And with America having roughly 320 million citizens that's about 1.5 billion guns. And that's just the registered guns. That doesn't factor in ghost guns, unregistered guns, and military. So total you are probs looking at 2 billion plus guns. Food for though. - But Switzerland has a lot of guns also. You see, Switzlerland has no standing army. Instead they arm their citizens, giving every able bodied adult a firearm. America's murder rate is 5.1 for every 100,000 citizens. Switzerlands is .49 for every 100,000. So Switzerland has an amazingly low murder rate. Incredibly low. In the year 2014 there was only 41 murders. Damn. 41. Amazing. But since every citizen in Switzerland has a gun and they have one of the lowest murder rates, I guess that rules out the whole "Guns make more guns violence". C) And while the whole "Guns make more gun violence" argument is a bit correct. With the rather easy to obtain guns - compared to other countries - it's always more likely that America will have a lot of gun violence. But whether or not guns are available, if a person wants to kill someone they can use a different weapon. A hammer. A fork. A brick. The weapon doesn't matter. The violence will still happen if the individual commuting the act really wants to do it. D) Making it harder for law abiding citizens to get guns will decrease the amount of law abiding citizens with guns. But guess what? The people who commit acts of violence with guns? They aren't usually law abiding citizens. I think I have made my point. Just some food for thought.
