Hello Guardians,
Hello Guardians,
For months, gunplay has changed, evolved and in many cases, devolved. Aspects of weapons have been modified, whole classes have been affected and many weapons have been tossed aside to gather dust.
I'm sure all of us could dig up examples of various gunplay changes that Bungie has enacted, but what I'm aiming for isn't some thread for disgruntlement; rather, a discussion amongst us, the community, with a single focus: Buffing > Nerfing?
A recent conversation with an ex-guardian sparked this thought, "Why nerf when you can buff?". Originally, it started out all the same where he'd say, "You still play Destiny? Holy F***", to which I'd reply, "Why not?". This would devolve into a monologue that could be summarized in a few words: "They can't keep changing gunplay - it's not fair to us".
I agreed with him. At the same time, I believed that Bungie made these changes for a decent, if not good, reason too.
Now that I've had time to really think about this, I'd have to say that Nerfing was not the way to go.
When you Nerf, you make something less desirable or less effective (this is literally paraphrased from Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nerf_(video_gaming)). In essence, you take something, a gun or class of guns in this instance, and you make it a ghost of its former self. That'd be like taking a Zebra and removing its patterned coat, so now Zebras are basically smaller horses or taller donkeys. That's like killing individualism and asking the rest to fall into line... to CONFORM.
With Nerfing, you bring it DOWN. You pull it through the mud and you spit in its face. You devalue, deface and humiliate those that loved it. Explicit language aside, you negatively affect it so that others won't want it.
It's a Scorched Earth policy, like poisoning a well or watering a plant with Lyme (it will kill your plant).
......
Buffing, is a much different story. To buff is to empower, to invigorate... plainly, to make it BETTER. You take something and you raise it above what it used to be. You create new value, it becomes more appealing and more people will come to adore it.
THIS! This is like raising a barn in an Amish community or building a school in a new community.
It's a promise for improvement and a belief for betterment. It's a celebration of creative expression and diversity.
Literally, you positively affect it so others will want it and will love it.
..........
So, why can't we have buffs? Couldn't Bungie undo these Nerfs?
Why encourage negativity when we play this game to get AWAY from the negative issues that plague us?
Why do I even mention this at all?
Simply, I write this because I miss my old guns. I miss the richness of each class of gun. I miss the diversity of weapons that each group had. I miss the the exceptions like the Lord High Fixer, the Thorn, the Patience and Time and the other unique weapons like them. I want those good days back.
............................................................................
I ask you all to consider what I propose:
"Buffing is better than Nerfing. If a gun is imbalanced from a Nerf that was applied, it should be changed to its former self. Nothing should be taken away and new creative additions/solutions should be added.
Tweaks are acceptable to maintain order and balance, but removing or changing stats or traits from weapons in order to have them "CONFORM" to an cookie-mold ideal is ridiculous and unacceptable.
Any form of buffing, whether it'd be large or small it MUCH more palatable than even the slightest of nerfs."
That is the philosophy I am proposing.
I know I am but one in a sea of many, but am I alone?
Now, I ask you to vote. (Here's the poll choices - character limit in answer box)
Choice #1: Re-buff our guns, restore them to their glory.
Choice #2: Keep up the Nerfing, I hated the old days.
Choice #3: Buffing is better than Nerfing, but I don't agree with Sol's Philosophy

Some guns need buffs, while others need nerfs.
