Why is Trying Hard Considered a Bad Thing?

Can someone explain? What's wrong with wanting and trying to win in a game mode where winning is the goal?

  • The ones crying that others are "try hards" are only pointing fingers because they're terrible.

It pisses people off and they should play a different game. Destiny is in favour for try hards, so 90% of destiny's community has to try an git gud when they simply cant. Try hards have cancelled out things that others cannot do. Everyone wants that glory, but they cant get it. The world is a selfish place.

      Oh I don't know.....
the amount of bitching and pointing fingers for fuking up is what
It a very bad environment to be in a try hard team. Making the littlest mistake makes them rage beyond recognition. Oh look I killed him with a sticky grenade while he was hard scoping my hiding spot from a distance away. That's one example .... Any more?

    • I don't care if someone is a try hard. I just hate it when people lag switch... In standard crucible. In a game mode where losing doesn't cost you anything and you still want to pull that pathetic b.s... If you do this, you are everything wrong with this game.

It's an excuse used by bad people to justify how they're being effortlessly beaten. I've played drunk or while half paying attention to TV and have destroyed people. Meanwhile through their perspective I'm on PEDs, paying full attention to the game and giving it my all, hands sweating.

    • Ranked and Unranked playlists. Ranked would consist of skill based matchmaking and Unranked would consist of connection based matchmaking. If you want to just mess around and you don't care about winning then go into the Unranked playlist. If you want to win games, face truly challenging opponents, and use a more strategic approach you go into the Ranked playlist. Both grant rewards as usual, faction rank etc but this way each player can pick what kind of engagement they feel like experiencing. Granted this won't fix everything 100% but it's a start. Honestly the whole concept of labeling someone a try hard' is so stupid and childish, being more a way to shift the blame of a loss off of yourself and unto your opponents. It's easier to blame your opponent for using "OP" weapons and "OP" subclass than it is to shoulder the blame and figure out how you can outsmart them. It feeds into a much larger issue with player perception, but that's for another time.

The real reason why "tryhard" and "sweaty" have negative connotations is so that streamers can say "omg try hard" when they get owned. It saves face and allows them to get away without saying that they themselves were shit / not as good. *Gets headshotted * *OMG what a sweaty tryhard!!!*

      • Because half the people that play this game are below 12 years old, and just want to cry for nerfs all day.

Because other people are casual and don't want to spend a game with others that destroy them. Going into a game with a 6 man team all using the most powerful weapons and spawn trapping you is not really fun if you ask me. To that, I don't say "nerf snipers", I just want to play a fair game. One time I went in control against a group of people that were spawn trapping us and using the best weapons. I was so angry, but then I popped my arc blade in B, and cleared out 4 enemies, and captured that we couldn't capture for the whole game. We didn't have enough time to make a comeback, but it was satisfying as hell. So in the end, try hard games are inevitable, but don't let it stop you from playing a game all the way through

      • A (Try Hard) in my opinion isn't so negative. All it means is you gotta step up your game an totally focus if you want a chance of winning. You can rarely fail at anything, miss using a super, a snip, a shotgun battle. Missing a revive, for 3 vs 3 this is or any other game mode. Most try hards have 1.5k/d but the greater try hards are 2k/d -3.5k/d. These players can be beta or year 1 guardians, with allot of experience an if there with a strong team of 3 or 6 you rarely stand a chance of winning. So try hard isn't so negative, it just can mean your gonna have a long day; also winning can come down to the last match. Playing try hards most of the time it comes down to who will make the most plays against the opponent.

        • Wanting to win isn't bad, relying on overpowered and overused weapons is. Streamers and trials of Osiris have caused problems in the crucible. One person makes a video or streams saying " use Mida, it's really good". After that everyone loses their minds and now it is used by 70% of the players. Same things has happened since launch. There is always a meta that hurts crucible. Everyone class of primary, and secondary should be competitive in the crucible. What happens is that Bungie nerfs or buffs the weapons too much and not balancing overall....causing a meta. Now each type of weapon has a situation that it is ideal for. Snipers at long distance, shotguns close range, pulse rifles at mid range for example. Hand cannons should be useless at long range and on large open maps. Snipers should not be used on small, close quarters maps. Those are just a couple examples. But streamers and try hard paradise (aka trials of Osiris) have caused people to depend on the exact same set up instead of what weapons fit their individual play style. Currently the problem is Mida multi tool, last word, and 1k stare. Snipers would be an easy fix...remove aim assist. The others just need an adjustment to balance them with other weapons types.

        • Because sometimes it's not fun. I'll give you an example. After some amount of time, I convinced a few friends to pick up destiny to play. They got it, we got them leveled up and all was great, until pvp. We played 8 or nine straight matches where it was us + 3 randoms (who weren't good by any standards) vs what seemed like a never ending stream of try hards. We played games where they'd get 1 kill a match because everyone on the other team had 1ks out camping. People that aren't good can't even enjoy this game at all because of all the sweating. It wasn't like this in y1, that's what I don't get. Now, you've got every Hunter running nightstalker wombo combo, every warlock running ToF + Viking funeral and every Titan shoulder charging. Not to mention that 9/10ths of pvp consists of TLW/Mida 1000ys/conspiracy-D Quillians/truth

          • Anyone that beats people = try-hard. People using the same gear to beat others = meta/favourite loadout/pubstomping. TL;DR: People are idiots. Don't worry about it, man.

            • They don't use the term meaning 'that person is trying hard to do their best' it just means that person goes to any lengths necessary to ensure a win regardless of how cheap it may be or if it breaks any rules to do so.

                • In this game, you are not allowed to be a noob, or a sweaty try hard. You are not allowed to use certain weapons, subclasses, or perks in PVP, but you will get kicked from PVE for not using certain weapons, subclasses, or perks. There is a one-inch-by-one-inch area where you are allowed to enjoy this game. I'll send you the whole list so you can make sure you are in compliance.
