The following post is my way of trying to explain to the community the reasoning behind the nerf on ice breaker. All feedback is encouraged, but please refrain from lashing out at fellow guardians.
The most recent news on bungee.net in regards to destiny was about the long awaited patch on weapons. One of these that got nerfed was the Ice Breaker. The solar exotic sniper. As of now the Ice Breaker has a mag of 6 and recharges a round every 5 second for a total of 30 seconds for a full mag. After the patch has been released Ice Breaker will still have a 6 round mag but each shot will take 8 seconds to charge for a total of 48 seconds for a full mag.
Ice Breaker was an exotic completely intended for use in PvE over PvP. It wasn't until the Crucible Patch where the spawn rate and quantity of special ammo was reduced that people started to abuse the weapon in crucible. I'm not saying that people didn't use it before, I'm just saying there was a large spike after that patch. Bungee needed to fix this issue that was being used to "bypass" the "nerf" on special ammo.
Now it wouldn't be fair for Bungee to remove the Ice Breaker from crucible completely, so they had to find an alternative. They decided to slightly make the gun less effective in crucible while still allowing it to have its full impact in PvE.
And if you are worried about waiting 18 seconds extra for your full clip in PvE, I'm just here to remind you that 18 seconds is a lot shorter than the 5 minutes waiting for a special synthesis.
All Bungee did with the nerf on Ice Breaker was gear players towards using the gun in its intended environment.
I will be posting similar explanations on other weapons in the Patch such as the Thorn, Hawkmoon, Black Hammer, and more.
