I kept track of what primary weapon the first place finisher on the wining and losing team used in PvP. And over 80% used hand cannons. Out of those hand cannons nearly 90% were either TLW or Thorn. The vex and red death came in a distant 3rd and 4th. First place players hardly ever used auto rifles or scout rifles.
Bungie has stated in the past they want to see PvP players using all the different weapon types and not see one particular weapon or weapon type being used more than another. Basically saying they want to see balanced weapons in the crucible. But when nearly all of first place finishers are only using 3 or four 4 weapons and the top 2 weapons are hand cannons then you know there's a major problem.
I think Bungie has taken the right steps so far by nerfing auto rifles and fusion rifles and buffing pulse rifles and scout rifles. Now it's time to take a serious look at hand cannons.
I know i didn't take into account grenade kills, heavy weapon kills, or special weapon kills, but i still think it's strong enough evidence that hand cannons, particularly TLW and Thron, are horribly overpowered.
Edit: I kept track of 200 matches. After each match you have 30 seconds to view the leaderboards before you are brought to the matchmaking lobby. I simply inspected the first place finishers on both the winning and losing team. About 50 or so people left matchmaking before i could inspect them. So i recorded about 350 first place finishers and their primary weapon.
Edit 2: I should make clear that the problem is with TLW and Thorn and not hand cannons in general. If there is going to be a nerf then it should only apply to TLW and Thorn.

I wish there was a first place stat that I could look up, because I use VoC and Ice Breaker and come in first more often than not...

5 RespuestasAnd after they nerf HC's? Everyone will move on to the next thing people like you can complain about. Get over it and learn how to better encounter the thorn.

2 RespuestasAnyone who says hand cannons require skill is just scarred they won't get kills when the nerf comes. I've seen first hand someone who was never good at PVP suddenly get good when the TLW fell in their lap. I'm sure how easy it is to use has improved his skill at FPS's over all since he now understands how PVP video games work from dominating in control with his TLW and thorn. But it's time that him and other like him lose their training wheels. I can't tell you how many times the thorn burns me to death or someone comes a long with TLW shoots twice and I'm dead. People say auto rifles were worse back in the day but that's because nobody had hand cannons, but I remember running into people with my OP suros that had the TLW and they would wreck me.
Banana bread recipe Ingredients 1 1/4 cups sugar 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened 2 eggs 1 1/2 cups mashed very ripe bananas (3 to 4 medium) 1/2 cup buttermilk 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup chopped nuts, if desired Directions 1. Move oven rack to low position so that tops of pans will be in center of oven. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease bottoms only of 2 loaf pans, 8 1/2x4 1/2x2 1/2 inches, or 1 loaf pan, 9x5x3 inches. 2. Mix sugar and butter in large bowl. Stir in eggs until well blended. Add bananas, buttermilk and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt just until moistened. Stir in nuts. Pour into pans. 3. Bake 8-inch loaves about 1 hour, 9-inch loaf about 1 1/4 hours, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes. Loosen sides of loaves from pans; remove from pans and place top side up on wire rack. Cool completely, about 2 hours, before slicing. Wrap tightly and store at room temperature up to 4 days, or refrigerate up to 10 days. I personally think walnuts are best with them.
last word.

Thorn ftw

Yep that's the solution, let's keep nerfing everything until we're all running around with slingshot. I have friends in my clan I included that use the Montecarlo and mida and hardlight very well in PvP. People always bitching or crying about something!

2 RespuestasIf you're a good shooter, hand cannons are the best choice. Or scout rifles, if the map os fairly big.
-
1 RespuestaJust genuinely curious, but how did you effectively come up with those numbers?
-
Everyone knows hc are the new auto rifles and scout will never shine as long as hc have the floor
-
I use mida and I tend to do fairly well
-
I love seeing lots of thorns. I outgun them 90% of the time with my legendary pulse. TLW is my nemesis.
-
9 RespuestasBuff auto rifles then, simple solution. Also, have they changed special ammo, in IB I'm getting 7 shots for shotguns instead of the 4??
-
1 RespuestaI thought Bungie had already nerfed hand cannons by reducing there range and accuracy, to be fair I don't think it's going to make any difference players will always find the better weapon to use, if bungie keep nerfing weapons there'll all end up in comparison having the same effectiveness before bungie started nerfing weapons so there would be no point, if you can grasp what I mean lol.

1 RespuestaEditado por Orobas Rex: 6/4/2015 9:16:21 AMHand cannons got dial turned up too high and auto rifle dial down too low I'm hoping next turn of the dial will be somewhere in the middle but hey got too see a fallout 4 trailer today and it was real
-
No wonder I get so many kills with you scrubs around.

2 RespuestasSadly bungie will likely Nerf all hand cannons, in PvP AND PvE because of the massive thorn outcry. Wish crucible could get its own weapon balancing separate from PvE. Tired of guns getting nerfed into oblivion just because of PvP.

6 RespuestasThe special ammo change was meant to promote Primary weapon usage (which shotgunners didn't do) Some how the change has resulted in a nerf for snipers and no change for shotgunners. In other words, the 'nerf' to special ammo was counter productive and had the opposite affect on what was intended. Nerfs are needed & buffs are needed; this is an online game and with there being a pvp orientation, especially with ToO, weapon balance is as important now as it ever was. I see a lot of people saying, 'don't nerf *said weapon* buff the other weapons', the problem with this is that Time to Kill will continuously be reduced if there is a strict buff only rule, and as a result a game that has a reasonable TTK will turn out to be a run and gun CoD copy. Stats (of what weapons were most used in ToO) wont lie and I hope Bungie uses them to appropriately make alterations to specific guns. I think Bungie made a mistake with the auto rifle nerf where they change a whole weapon type in order to nerf one particular gun, which made them pretty unusable. I hope for Hand cannon's sake they don't nerf all of them, when it is clear that two are in need of some kind of balancing. Bungie also need to address Final round for high impact snipers, as well as the range on shotguns. If I was to be unbiased, fusions need a change. (not a fan of fusions or their users, but for the sake of being fair they need altering) If you genuinely don't think some particular weapons need addressing, we can safely assume you like the crutch. Now thats not a dig in anyway, play with whats given to you, I don't knock anyone for doing so, but I think thats the reality. *You refers to the community, not the Op or the poster of the comment this is in reply to. I'm using it in the general sense.

Damn, I must fall in the 20%. Rocking the Allfate all the time.
-
I have been switching between hand cannons and a new scouty I got as a drop :-) with fast rate of fire and a re-roll to get it full auto it's like an auto rifle without all the auto rifle nerfs
-
2 RespuestasDoes that make me a special snowflake using VoC alot in pvp lol
-
Who up?

If they change anything I hope it's not the guns. The special ammo changes are a good example of one of a thousand ways to tinker with the game other than changing the stats of something people already have and use... Maybe thats the answer. Maybe suddenly one day we log in and handcannons are unchanged but now go in the special slot, lol... But changing equipment that has already dropped for anyone, even one person, will always be weak sauce. It's just a dungeon master sneakily erasing and changing stat sheets after that week's session because he couldn't think of any other way to balance the op loot he gave his players the week before... There are so many ways that break the consistency of a simulation or other fantasy scenario so much less.

Hey bro I just wana chuck a shout out to my three little words (two little words) I use it more than any of the above. My thorn still isn't maxed nor is my last word it's only 50% upgraded.
