Considering that the weapon in question was made by the Drifter (presumably) I doubt it's a Weapon of Sorrow but it's still an interesting question to ask. Since Witherhoards perk Primeval's Torment is what I speculate to be lore wise is a trapped Primeval (Primeval of primevals??) in a grenade launcher similar to how Omar Agah inhabits the Xenophage. Just some food for thought

Edited by silencersix: 3/10/2021 4:21:36 AMLike others said, Weapons of Sorrow used to just be normal weapons (Like a Better Devils or Trustee) that the Hive got their hands on to and just corrupted using their magic. But the Hive did this for the sole purpose of corrupting Guardians. Well, that applied to the original Thorn. Nowadays Guardians just grab a random Hand Cannon and use some Hive spells and magic to turn it into a replica of Thorn. Witherhoard was made by the Drifter specifically using Taken magic (not Hive magic, which is the first thing that separates it from a Weapon of Sorrow), and it wasn’t a normal grenade launcher. I assume it was made in a manner similar to Malfeasance, where the gun itself was built around a dark core. But that’s just what I think, going off of what I’ve read (some of this information coming for this subforum, which is an instant red flag). So don’t take anything I say as a fact.

My favorite weapon. Got over 900 kills in pvp. Most of that is in glory/survival this season. Figured everyone is running the same load out- FELWINTERS LIE. So as an experiment I thought I'd see how many idiots would be caught in my circle of doom as they try to slide at me, And let me tell you it's alot. Funny stuff indeed. Besides being an anti shotgun weapon, you can kill a guardian in mid super with a direct hit. 😉

We haven’t been given a definitive definition for what makes a weapon of sorrow. To the best of my knowledge thorn and necrochasm (D1) are the only ones I’m positive about. Touch of malice (D1) is almost for sure one as well (it’s been a while since I’ve read the D1 lore). Bad juju may also be a weapon of sorry but that’s the one I’m least sure about.

The Dredgens know how to make them so Malfeasance and Witherhoard could be but we never know cause even if u ask drifter he won't answer

2 RepliesEdited by Griever: 3/9/2021 8:07:23 AMAs Knightlight below said, Weapons of Sorrow were weapons made by humanity (or maybe any other race) and corrupted by Hive magic/ Darkness. Thorn, formerly Rose. Necrochasm was a human weapon as well and it's true potential was unlocked with the Crux of Crota. Touch of Malice I think would count, pretty sure you needed something from Oryx and his daughters. Razelighter/ Arc Caster/ Darkdrinker were forged with a piece of Oryx's sword. Whisper is a Hive Worm God, so make of that what you will. Don't know about Bad Juju, never read the lore of it or Toland. Malfeasance was as much a gift by Drifter and Shin as it was a means of temptation and luring out those who would lose themselves to Darkness. Don't know about Witherhoard.

4 RepliesDidn't a weapon of Sorrow also need to be able to kill Guardians or has Guardian death been retconned to be really easy now?

A weapon of sorrow like thorn or bad juju no. A weapon of sorrow in the sense that i dont have it and am really sad yes.

5 RepliesWitherhoard can make warmind cells, let that sink in.

I don't think so. It uses Taken Blight energy. It didn't need any Hive essences or rituals to bind it, just an invention made by Drifters advances in containment technology.

3 RepliesEdited by Knightlight: 3/9/2021 3:12:52 AMWe know that Thorn and Necrochasm are weapons or sorrow. From my understanding a WoS is a weapon that was made by humanity and then corrupted. This definition may not be true or entirely accurate. Weapoms that are up to debate are -Bad Juju -Whisper of the worm -Malfesence

I think most would call it a weapon of great joy. lol
